E36 vs E46 M3

E46 M3, do it.

I have an E90 M3 now and having owned an E46 M3, with every iteration people say the previous generation was more hardcore.

When the next M3 is out people will be saying it isnt as hardcore as the E9X

Just the way it goes

Oh and the gents arguing about Flywheel power vs Wheel power, its virtually a thumb suck trying to work out Flywheel power on a dyno. You need to take the engine out and hook it up to an engine dyno to give you a truly accurate reading.

where would one find this white M3 with red interior, if say it was for sale?

The car will be for sale, he is just busy with other projects and so forth (of which a few include my own cars) before he will commit to selling his car.

As I said previously, the car stands by the old Zeemax premises during the day.

okay my power figures quoted are not from the Zeemax dyno but from the Mace dyno.

I was under the impression Mace was still based at Zeemax but apparently they moved back to Retreat.

FYI...i.e. dyno test results

Vehicle : BMW E36
Model : 1997 M3.2
Odometer : 180 000 km.
Date : July 2010

@ Crank = 258 NM (Dastek)
@ Wheel = 218 NM (Speedspot)

@ Crank = 118 %
@ Wheel = 84.5%

Drive train losses = 18%
Drive train 'gains' = 15.5%

I think you meant KW?

sorry no - my mistake for not specifying...

power(kw) does not mean much to me

torque(nm), or the acceleration time is what interests me

Then those torque figures look really low.

I know of N/A four pot motors that make more torque than that.

you are absolutely right....a e36 M3 3.2 should be making in the region of 340nm:idea:....280nm is what a stock GTI makes

what power does a stock 4dr e36 M3 make at the coast?

This question is for guys that have put their car on the dyno and not people who think what it should make:thumbs:

Correct..! These must then be at the wheels, showing (from specifications) ~25% drive train losses.

UPDATE : OK - I figured out why the chart power and torque figures seems so 'low'...these are measured in 3rd gear..!
