e36 to maintenance

howzit guys im in the market for a e36 328i drop top i currently drive a Honda civic and i would like to know what would it cost to run the car and keep it healthy and later in its life i would like to turbo it what would it cost to do a decent job looking for above 200kw but for now i just want a decent drive and a healthy car what would maintenance be

e36 maintenance not bad but check most common items eg. lower control arms say R3000 for both ( with labour ) brake pads say R800 front and back , turbo conversion about R70k with about 400kw .

Wow haha 70k sounds like a lot but 400kw would be amazing to drive!!!
What about say body work?
If I had to replace beadings and bumpers etc?
Should I phone autostyle for that kind of info?
What components of the e36 are most prone to break and/or need to be replaced?

Keep the Honda and drop a turbo in it - let that be your weekend toy. Buy the E36 and keep her standard as a daily driver.

whaaat a leaking rooof!!!well that sucks haha how do you go about fixing that,hmmm but you can't argue hey guys a drop top is extremely hot but I dunno how bad I'd be biting that steering wheel if some water started dripping all over my head haha...

You would have to do a little more work to get extra power on a drop top to compensate for the extra weight...

Iv had a bad experience with an automatic car...two of them actually,I hate having to let the car decide when to shift gears for me lol

Yea it has to be a 328i in either red,white or black....hmm I must say I saw one in electric blue and that looked insanely hot too


What do you guys think about putting a supercharger in the car?just a thought

Sorry, but I'm just not too keen on the idea of bolting on a turbo/supercharger to a car that did not leave the factory with one (with the possible exception of a Honda S2000, but that's a story for another day :mmm: )

Have you considered a E36 4 door M, as opposed to a 328i. Yes, would be a bit more on initial costs, but in the long run if you do any type of turbo job on a 328i, it's gonna be money you will never recover. As opposed to a finely tuned E36 M, which will keep it's value ... and still make a nice reliable daily drive.

I also agree, the 328i engine is best left standard :drool:

If you looking for awesome power go for a M3 (2 door or 4 door) :excited: in standard form alone you'll be blown away imp: no need for a turbo or supercharger

Maintenance on a E36 M3 also aint too bad, maybe your mechanical parts will cost you an arm and a leg :mmm: but ordinary servicing is quite reasonable :thumb:

@MSM and 3_Y-2-J_8, I have actually looked at getting the M3,but found that if I was to get a decent one that's been looked after I'd have to fork out about 90K maybe even more which sadly is out of my budget.

So that's why I want nothing less then a 328i with the removable roof, so then if people ask me "why didn you just get a M3?" I can turn around and say "Cos I wanted the wind in my hair duh" hahahaha

When I first started working for my grandfather in 2007 there was a guy working in the factory next door to me and he owned a blue 2 door M3 and seeing/hearing that M3 everyday as he drove past dam my mouth droped to the floor everytime,planned on stealing it once haha nah I'm kidding!

I see what you mean and you got a valid point :thinker:

You can get either a 2 or 4 door M3 for under R100K but then you looking for trouble... and good condition M3's are not for sale :nono:

Im not too sure price wise for the drop tops, but its also becoming scarse :dunno: the sedan's go for R50k and theres still a few good examples around.
