Hi Guys

Was chatting to a few BMW 3 series fans this week and they cant really agree which of the three models above is the best to own. Which would be your ultimate best? And if you could combine them....which features or specs would you use?

Just curious...

Had all three in the family, been more satisfied with the E46, feels more solid.

Not as much fun as the E30 or E36 though.

I will try find the thread on one of the international forums. But the guy built an e46 chasis into an e30. Was the most epic and intricate build I've seen to date.

Only had E36's, so can't comment on the other 2 models. Apart from the looks, the low centre of gravity and handling is amazing and those 6 pot cast iron blocks are bulletproof. As for attention, you will get compliments and stupid offers :fishwack:

an E30 beacuse they are becoming a collectors item
an E36 (because I owned a 325i for 7 years) for its handling
an E46 because it looks so much more refined

choices choices

It depends on the reason for buying. If it is just to own a BMW to enjoy while you have another car for daily use, and to have a piece of BMW magic and history that will be of great value always, the E30 is probably the one to go for. Especially if you would like to keep it original or with minimal modifications.

For something to play with, modify and find parts relatively easily, there should be plenty of E36s available. If you want something really spectacular to play with, and you have large pockets, there is always the M3! Here also, a great E36 could also be one to keep original and preserve but the E30 seems to be more valuable because they are rare these days.

For a great, refined all round car to use often, maybe the E46 is the one to go for. The 318is I have experienced are really great all round cars to use daily, and the 6 cylinder models are very refined as well.

Each one is a BMW and the Sheer Driving Pleasure will always be there!

Simple!!!!

E30.....with an e36 M3 motor, and e46 Stopping power....Perfect Combination

E30 cause I feel its the hottest BMW design from that era....

E36 M3 motor...do I even need to explain that one....

E46 Brakes....because they bigger....that all!

It depends what you want, if you want a daily driver then E46 all the way. If you want a weekend toy then E30 or E36 as fitting a LSD is cheap and easy. Unfortunately the E30 gets too much unwanted attention in Gauteng which makes it dangerous to drive around...

E39 ! something between E36 and E46 (best in looks) - unfortunately a bit bigger...

An E39 with sports kit, bit lowered and the 'right' wheels are the prettiest BMWs ever
.
Sadly modern BMWs, like most cars are fugly - trying too hard to look pretty

I have driven each of these models.

the e30 is a nice car, fun to drive and keeps occupied on a rainy day.

the e36 a bit more refined, a little les tail happy. Although old she will sure as hell put out when you need her to. if you look at the M3 in this model, you will find that its like driving a 327iS but with a little more control

the e46 is an awesome car to drive. like Prado said, the 318i is one of those start up and go daily drives. Believe me, they go for years. they are quite economical for in town driving and even long distance. they are very comfy. if you want go for the bigger build engines and you can have fun too.

me and my very personal and humble opinion, I prefer the e36 M3 as it gives me the best of both worlds. she aint economical but who buys an M3 for economy. she is fun when you need it to be fun but she can be quite tame when driving decently. yes, you will need to put some work into her and quite a bit of elbow grease to get her back to her glory days but when she is there, you are set for a very long time.

the other thing my dad said to me when I was younger, choose your car like you choose your women.

e30 - older than you and a lot of fun when no one is looking, you don't really want to attract too much attention when they are around because although attractive, someone else may want in on your fun too:rollsmile:

E36 - about your age, a lot of fun and you don't really mind getting caught, fairly grounded and you kind of pick up what they want and they are very loyal:praise:

e46 - a little younger than you, fun but it comes at a price because everybody wants some, you want to get caught because it will be the talk of the town but she tends to milk your pocket and you may need deep pockets. BITCHES AINT LOYAL.. LOL:thumbdo:

ok, enough my crap.. :roflol::roflol::roflol::roflol:

dude, its ultimately what you want. go drive each of them. if need be, start with an E30, if you don't like it, flog it cause someone will want it.. and so on and so on

just enjoy it..

thank you :ty::ty::ty::ty: i'll be here all week

Have a big enough budget and garage and put all 3 of them in there, each car is special in its own way.
I've owned all 3.
E30 325is
E36 M3
E46 M3 cab
Haven't quite taken to the E90/92 yet.
For the three I have owned, I miss something about each of them.

It really depends on what you want the car for.

An e46 330i (in 6 speed manual) is probably one of your best choices for a daily.

For a toy you can honestly go for whatever....though if it is a good condition e30 don't be surprised if it gets affirmatively shopped.

I would take my S54 in an e46 M3....the way nature intended it to be....

Such i tough call, if i could have i would've kept my e36 and my e46

the only reason i upgraded is because my e36 started getting a bit tired at around 360,000km...
