Got the idea from Gizmo to post this.....
1995 E36 M3 , Car had +- 83000km when it came in. Customer bought the car with the turbo done already. Customer wanted more power as the he was not happy with the previous install.
Car was done by a well known tuner but im not here to spoil names so i wont mention who.

Anyway, car is ultra clean, lots of money was spent on the car by the previous owner.
Pics of engine bay before we started our work....

More to come soon....

No need to mention the builder, its evident by the modified plenum chamber and blue hoses.

Wastegate location and turbo intake gives away that its a sav car:rollsmile: looking forward to seeing the rest of the build:coolShake:

Please don't make the same mistake I made, start with a compression and leak-down test.

I don't see any reason why we would even begin to think it would be a SAVSPEED car except for everything.

Now we get to see how it should be done

Bahaha, not to mention the welds.
LOL
Marius Oosthuizen from full boost performance who does my aluminium TIG welding says BMW use poor quality aluminium full of impurities in their castings and its really difficult to get a nice bead flowing, he always bitches when I bring him BMW parts for welding.

Thanks for the heads up Gizmo.....
This car actually came in running fine just lots of stuff that i dont like.....
Heres some of the things...

The log manifold, IMHO restricts flow totally, not good for HP applications, maybe for low power applications but not for me..

Standard BMW ECU and SMT6, i prefer standalone management on a Boosted car

On a S50B30 Turbo, I prefer NOT using the Vanos entirely.

Stock Fuel lines, with one added Bosch 044 Pump

The really terrible Instrument cluster :thumbdo:

Took the car for a run on Dinos dyno at AutoSpot with the setup it came in with... on 0.8 bar boost power was 300HP, Not too bad considering what it had and a stock S50B30 does around the 200HP mark on the same dyno.
Cant rememeber the NM.

The invoice the previous owner paid Sav for the conversion was brought for us to check , it listed all the Goodies such as JE Pistons, forged rods etc. But we were not entirely sure that those parts were used and what the compression was , so we came to an agreement with the owner that we would NOT remove the head at all, we would try working around the motor and try and remedy all the things we thought needs attention.

Please do use the vanos as it helps spool the turbo. If its working then there is no reason to delete it.

If sav charged for je pistons and rods then they will be in there.

I understand where you coming from but which standalone management can work Vanos "PROPERLY" besides lets say Haltech.
i know they offer vanos controllers but from previous experiences they cannot control them properly.
Your advice/experiences would be appreciated

Haltech will run it beautifully and anything else you may add to the motor in future. Connect it to all the motor's sensors and with a good tune it will run the motor like a factory ecu.

what is wrong with the current management setup? there are no cheap solutions for running the Vanos without the stock ECU

Then he shouldn't be owning a m3 turbo if he's not willing to spend good money on a quality ecu...

@Gizmo...... Thats not entirely true, ofcourse haltech is one of the best but 40k for an ecu is a bit much for most peoples pocket. Anyway, different strokes for different folks....

@moranor... the standard ECU and MAF IMHO cannot handle boost, maybe very little but i dont think so
