i would try the seals 1st its quite expensive to go the Dr Vanos route because they do all the work and labour prices are way higher in the UK...
But with Dr Vanos you know its going to be 100% after :)

$1,200.00 or $100 :rollsmile:

:flyfun: its obvious $100 because i can do the RR myself even the rattle kit and seal combo. have been reading reviews and Beisan comes tops:praise:

The $1200 includes a $600 deposit thats refunded if you give them your old vanos. Price is thus $600 for the refurbed unit.

Since they dont have stock at the moment you will need to send yours to them to be refurbished, this costs $500.

Ive been listening to alot of vanos vids on the net and they sound very horrible when they get bad im sure if you catch it early you can avoid having it rebuilt 90% of the time its when you leave it and it gets more damage that you have problems...

the rattle repair kit helps to keep the gears from getting damaged so if you install it soon as you start hearing noises you can save yourself alot of trouble... if you have had rattle for a long time and its gotten really bad then i think you need a rebuild...

I am heavily confused as to where you get this $1200 price from for DR Vanos?

DR Vanos Stage 1 single vanos kit = $250.00 with Priority shipping and what ever other fees they are adding it comes to Total: $405.00 which according to our current rand dollar exchange = R3143.00

Please explain where the missing $795 is coming from im very confused?

My next question is Who can fit a vanos system, (Not just the seals but the whole system that DR Vanos provides) I am in Randburg, im interested in what the full cost of fitting this unit will be as well as who the best person to do it would be.

Thanks :)

the M3 kit is $1,200... so it seems to be quite a bit more expensive than the single vanos...

again $250 is quite a bit more than $30(for the seals) but its less work :)

you could contact Gizmo or zaleonardz@DentDoctor to fit the Vanos

Pretty straight forward:
3.2 = R9,314.72 (-R4,657.36 refund for your old core)
3.0 = R7,374.15 (-R3,881.13 refund for your old core)

If your sending your cold core up, you dont need to pay the "deposit"

oki doki, I see where I went wrong, I didnt see that they had seperate m3 section for e36, I just saw that they had E36 single vanos unit, which I thought was for E36 3.0 M3....the M3 vanos seems to be quite pricey and none in stock, with shipping it to them and getting it back would take weeks and a hell of allot of cash. then you still need to get it fitted.

What we looking at here? has anyone had this done to there German spec and how long did it take and what was the total cost in the end including fitment?

Go to the dealer and price a replacement unit. Last I looked it was R40k. I have a 3.0. The the S50 Euro engine was never brought into the US so thats why they are rare.

E36 M3 ownership unfortunately is expensive.

Every time someone says German spec in an irrelevant sense I secretly judge them.

I might want that unit just gonna check if the vanos has any problems yet, I dont hear any noises from the vanos so I think the vanos unit may be fine but I will get it checked.

The agents only charged you R600 to replace the seals? which BMW did you goto and did you supply the seals or did they?

I think that the price (R600) was what he spent buying the seals from the stealership and not for fitting them.

What milage you doing now? 100 000km at least? Maybe? So agents seals will cost R600 plus R1000 to fit and you will still do at least 100 000km. I think thats a good saving.

To me that sounds very reasonable and its done by the agents who will have to carry out a guarantee.

the problem is the OEM seals are made of the Buna (Buna-N, NBR, Nitrile) and start to seriously degrade after just 30000 km and start not to work properly the beisansystems seals are made of Viton (FKM, Fluorocarbon) that has similar mechanical properties to Buna but has much higher temperature and chemical resistance characteristics...

BMW has been engaged on this subject and has elected to not address the issue “No further development will be done” (hey old cars using lots of fuel is a good thing for new car sales)

If you want to make sure your Vanos is operating properly (which is the reason to change then in the 1st place) you should rather go for the beisansystems seals... if you selling your car before the seals do more than 30000km then i guess its not your problem :)

As for the bmw guarantee there are quite a few stories on the forum about how bmw are not willing to stand behind their work...

I would way rather get this work done by someone like Rick540, Gizmo or Zale...

I will let you guys know when they become available

who is interested lets get a list going:

Please add me to the list for the seals. Could you give us an estimate of how much the seals will cost for a 3.2
