E36 Key remote battery...

Does anyone know what battery the key remote has?
Is it only available at the stealers???

Dunno about the E36, but the E46 got a Panasonic VL2020. Make sure it's the 2020. It's not available at chemists etc, only at dealers or specialist electronic stores

It's a CR2016 battery - i recently bought me a couple at Game Stores for R15 each. They work like a charm:thumbsup:

Does anybody know what the effect would be if I mod in a 2016 or 2032 into the E46's key? Eg a battery with the same voltage. The reason why I said that you should only use the 2020 is because it's got little metal prongs pre-soldered onto them.

Just remember to program the key with the car...

2 issues
- the dimensions 'may' be different. e.g. thickness
- you run the risk of your soldering failing......... and leaving you stuck out in the middle of the karoo, when you made a refueling stop :dropjaw:

Update... Its actually a CR1220 battery (3V). You can get them anywhere, i found them at Dischem.
The best part is still to come:
I asked the dealership for replacement batteries. They said it cost R135.00.
Now the remote takes two, i got them at Dischem for R7.95 each. They are GP lithium batteries, so quality is not an issue here!
Tested them with a mulitimeter, and fitted them, and all is well!!!

Hi all
The CR1220 or CR2016 batteries are not rechargable. I managed to order a battery Rechargeable VL Lithium coin 3V 20mAh which is the Panasonic VL2020 battery.
Register with this website http://za.rs-online.com/ and oder....all in all came to R85.00 inc. delivery fee.
I hope I can save lots of guys lots of dollars!

Mu E46 key battery died yesterday, a bit of research here, and some help from Gizmo, sorted......normal Lithium battery fitted, will source a rechargeable version this week. Easy to fit too.....
