E36 Help Needed...Loud noise on startup

Hi Guys

Just picked this up now...
There's a really loud metal rubbing on something noise coming on startup of the car...then gradually subsides on idle...but still continues if revved but not as loud

The noise seems to be coming from the section where the gearbox meets the engine...

What could possibly be the fault and what are possible solutions? Help please....

Maybe starter housing cracked.

if its only on start up, check your lifters as well

A little scared to drive it now so getting it towed to the garage shortly...
Possible problems could be either starter housing or flex plate in gearbox,time will tell...

Had the car checked out...

Flex plate and some other damages...so basically the gearbox is kinda f*^%ed:cursin:
