E36 brake lights

Hi fanatics. So my brake lights just stopped working. No brake light circuit failure message on the obc, bulbs are still good. Just a question....If it's not the brake light switch under the pedal....is there anything else that could go wrong?

More than likely the brake light switch, otherwise ur actual tail lights, are those still the original ?

Thanks for replying. The tail lights are still original. AAALLL the other lights work. Fuses are good. Eish...I'll have a look at the switch tomorrow. Unfortunately I can't work on the car right now.

1)check fuses, possibly the ones under the hood. left hand side
2)check that the bulbs are making a good contact, common problem
3)check the microswitch at the brake pedal

Was finally able to check the car out and it was the connector for the brake light switch under the kick panel. Don't know how that came undone. Only thing I can think of is when I took the car for alignment this afternoon. Thanks again for the swift response gents

Hsllo,

Yes, I would suspect the switch, if it was a loose wire or blown bulb or fuse the OBC would have picked it up.

They usually lock the brake pedal against the seat with a long adjustable rod during the alignment. Could be they mistakenly made contact with the connector on the brake switch...

sounds very plausible, will enter this fault into my own "memory data bank", should this happen at my shop
