E36 Alarm not working

Hi guys not sure if any of u experienced this or have any advice to offer

recently my car alarm started acting up, it would just go off at random times and when I tried the buttons on the key but it did nothing opened with the key and started.... The alarm turned off

After doing this, the central locking stopped working from inside but still worked with the remote, when locking the car but now the car wouldn't open with the unlock button. This was driving me crazy as whenever I opened the car the alarm wen off

I disconnected the car battery thinking that this may reset the system and reconnected it the next day but now it's completely dead. I now have to open and lock manually

Really not sure what to do next ...

Update: Managed to get it working again but im not sure if this resolves the problem with the alarm going off randomly ... anyway this is how it's done ...
Turn Ignition to pos. 2
Press lock / unlock button on the key (not sure which one) ...
and that's what got it working again

Is this like a reset for the central locking system?

I have no idea but everything works now

Reason I ask is my doors lock and unlock when they want to when pressing the button, the only ones that always work is the passenger door, boot lid and petrol cap.
