Guys

While removing the baffle from my airbox (great sound BTW), I noticed that the pipe coming from the airduct thing above the radiator was broken off just after the bend and then continue maybe 15cm later down to just above what i guess to be the alternator ( didn't really look to closely). what's this for and what would the effect be of the missing piece in between?

From the pic it looks like you removed the entire airbox :fishwack:

NO, thats a pics from Google for illustrative purposes. I only removed the baffle, and replaced the cold air intake from the grill.

IS that really for cooling the alternator?

Yes it cools the alternator . If you remove the baffle from the airbox you can also remove the piece in front of the airbox that goes forward and stops next to the headlight . You get a nice sound when tramping the car ....

So if a piece of the pipe to the alternator is missing, will it cause damage to the alternator?

I'll probably remove it, but won't the car suck in more warm air?

The alternator does not suck any air.....the pipe is fitted just to direct air towards the alternator in order to help with keeping it cool while operating....like all stated, it's just a 'preventative' measure in order to extend the live on the 'alty'......it will work fine without the 'air duct' but prefer to have it replaced as with all the 'six cylinder' motors there is very minimal air circulation under the bonnet, so hence 'big hot air' build up....so just an aid to get 'colder' air 'direct to the 'alty'.....same thing goes for the 'thin split airduct' nect to the light on the OEM air intake box (where the air filter is located)
