And then?
How’s the build going?
Thanks for asking @Bernard335
  • The car has gone to paint & I am collecting tomorrow (Super Excited!)
  • I have stripped the motor & cleaned most of the bits
    • Put in some large orders for parts
    • Honed the M52B28 block. It is nikasil so going to run it as is.
    • Did a DIY porting job on the head. The head is off to get cams done & valve seats cut
    • Many other things in many other states
  • So when the car comes back, it will go back up on jacks
  • Then the stock suspension comes out & I will reinforce the chassis on top of the rear sub-frame
  • From there I need to rebuild the engine
    • Looking for an oil pump specific to the 1996 M52 B28 (Cant find one)
I have also had many things machined blah blah blah. Lots of work LOL
I cant post pics here but please follow the progress here:

Nice, how's the international delivery from bimmerworld ? would like to order a few stuff from them as well
Bro, I was very impressed at how efficient they are.

I have ordered about 4 packages from Bimmerworld & every package arrives within 3 weeks.
You will get a call and/or email from UPS where you need to pay the Import SA VAT & Import duties.
After that, it should arrive within 2 days.

Well done, lots of hard work and money being spent. I can see attention to detail and experience going in there. I have to ask though, will those single piston brakes do the trick? I'm no race car expert but the stock brakes even with red stuff pads (supposed to be a small upgrade from stock pads) are pretty crap imo on my F30. So not sure how those E36 brakes will hold up on the track?

Thanks @Salt, this is a very good question.
The short answer is that I am not sure, we will have to test this.

What I can say is that your F30 is still a road car (I assume) meaning that it still has all the bits inside to make it comfortable. This is obviously weight that the brakes need to deal with.

My E36 is completely gutted so this should work with heat & slowing the car.
When I race polo's, I used both the large TDI Front Disc & Caliper as well as the smaller stock disc & caliper.
The smaller brakes just required more braking force to achieve the same result but the difference in performance was negligible.
The Group N 328i cars used stock sized calipers & discs which gives me confidence that it can be done.

The plan is to use stainless brake lines, high quality brake fluid to avoid boiling, PFC pads for the endurance as Brembo discs.

So lets see if we can get away with it. If not, I will have to find an alternative...

@JSm-13 you make a good point on the weight, I did not think about it. Keep us up to speed on the braking :) Will be interesting to see how it pans out.

Most of the guys in EC run E46 330i front setup. Caliper & disc is straight bolt on. We run Febi pads and Bosch dot 5 fluids. This holds up for endurance races. Longest we completed was 4hr with no fade and pads were still ok as well.

Thanks for the feedback @PaKiMoNSTeR

That brake pad information is very interesting. Much cheaper than my current solution but ok.
Let me see how my setup works & then if need be, I will move to this.

Thanks
