I went to Amanzimtoti from Witbank and did 650km and the gauge still showed 1/4 tank left and the range showed 160km still left to do.....

I don't think it is to bad compsumption for a 328i....

Which again brings me to my bugbear facebook issue. Everytime fuelly posts an update to facebook showing my latest fuel up and the consumption, one of my friends (who drives a shitbox hyundai gets) always comments that my car is SO heavy on juice and that I must sell and buy something lighter on fuel.

Lets think about this realistically for a second shall we?

My car costs me per month:

Insurance R350 (including excess waiver)
Fuel R1500-R2000pm

And I love driving my car

Her car costs:

Monthly repayment R2300
Fuel R600
Insurance R750 (With a R5k excess :roflol: )

So lets see.... her car is light on juice, but costs more.

I drive like a loon most days, however i do a lot of highway driving but it is always at 180 and above and always on the cruise control, I have a 96 328i auto sedan and I have yet to see figures above 10.5.

Current tank is at 10.2 and that is without trying! Can easily get into the 9s with some concentration.

And as a yardstick my dad has a 2.8 fwd A4 audi, I used it a few weeks back and couldnt get it under 13!

and its a manual and I was REALLY trying.

The last day I was turning the car off downhill and got a figure of 12.2!!!

BMW FTMFW!!

lol not really worth it is it? spending and extra 1l/100km is not really going to break the bank...

This month that is a very likely possibility.....

ok so lets say you spend R2000 on fuel a month...

at 12.6l/100km R2000
at 11.1l/100km R1761

you save R239 and feel like /wrists when you drive rather spend that R239 and be  every time you drive...

That's actually very good! Was going to say, with the shorter diff, that's impressive! Do you use your econometer when driving? What I mean is, most of the time I try and keep my econometer south of the 10 l/100 km as much as possible. Obviously on pull-off and crawling speeds this ain't really possible, but on the flip side, slowing and going down a hill is free petrol, so balances out.

Fetched my car from its service yesterday, consumption when dropped off was 10.4 l/100 km. When I collected it, was on 24.5 l/100 km! After some driving around yesterday managed to get it down to 13 l/100 km and she is now on half tank... So not too bad! And I wasn't exactly doing an economy run!

And finally.... I can hardly believe it myself (As a comparison, I used to get 11.2 average with the 320i)
Note: consumption 1 indicator gets reset at every fuel up.

Awesome consumption, i still need to complete my 1st fuel tank since getting mine :=): i will let you guys know, oh and still need to photoshoot it

my data : In town i get 10.7L/100 Km without any savings consideration at all.

Gear changes : 1st & 2nd @ ~5000 RPM
Gearbox : Standard 5-speed
Rear tires : 235 x 40 x 17

I previously tried 235 x 45 x 17 on the rear which lowered engine RPM a bit but increased fuel consumption slightly,
probably because engine was not operating at optimum torque at gear changes...

My 328i would get me 480km - 500km before the reserve light would come on regardless of if I drive gently or thrashed her so i gave up trying to save fuel.

Its no fun to drive gently so why bother for the tiny saving you may get.

My 320d gets 850km before the reserve light comes on with mixed driving. if i really push her the consumption goes up badly!

When i do 394.3 on my 318IS it says my range is still 400 and my needle is above half way:rollsmile:

The one day I did 400kms on a tank in my 135i, hell froze over.

I would love to get your insurance - I just got a 328i and pay R350 but that is only 3rd party fire and theft... bear in mind, I haven't had insurance for 5 years.
What is the going rate for 328i 1997 e36 with 201000km these days... Standard as the day it was bought - almost.
