E36 328i electronics

After installing an imported motor to my car I had some problems starting it. The engine turned but would not start. A guy came and reset the electronics ( showed fault 18 ). The car started and I was driving fine for about 2 weeks. Now, all of a sudden the engine just turns without starting again and that happened just after I disconnected the battery cables to fix the spinning barrel. The same guy came to reset it again but with no luck. I have been told now:
1) That the computer box doesn’t read my key.
2) That I need a new key to be made up by BMW.
3) That I need to replace the computer box.
4) That there is a problem with the immobiliser.

Now who do I belief and repair he car without spending thousands again? I can get my car to
“professionals” to look at it because of getting it there and they charge me an arm and a leg to look for the fault.
ANY ideas on what can be wrong?? ANY one willing to come and help me??

If you repaired the barrel and its the same key, none of the above is applicable.

If you changed the barrel, and you changed the key, then the chip in the key is not corresponding to the EWS (security system)

You def do not need a new DME (Computer Box)

You do not need a new key from BMW, although that would solve your starting issue in terms of the chip, the key will be designed for the own barrel, so you cant do that. You need an entire new lock set if you want to go this route.

What you do need is a special chip in the car that disables the security system and make the key coding/EWS matching obsolete.

Twister, I have jut experienced a similar problem with my E36 M3. The bat was disconnected for about two moths whilt we did a body restoration. Reconnected the battery and guess what? No start! :argh:

BMW called out and he ring/reader at the ignition is blown and the receiver near the ECU is blown. These items are not too expensive (about R1,5k) and job done! :flyfun:

So in a nutshell, I would call out the BMW techs and let them have a look? Theses systems are über complicated any simple coding etc is ok for non agents but IMHO when these systems go wrong, it is gets to let the agents have a go!

 good luck mate!

Dude...

Your not reading properly.

DO not take the car to BMW,

You need one of these

http://www.uobd2.com/wholesale/bmw-ews-immo-emulator-2082.html

BMW is going to charge you like 1k just to tell you you need a 5k lock set...

 Do Not take your e36 to Bmw Agents its not worth it, a guy in the East Rand was changed thousands to replace the DME (which wasn't faulty and Bmw Alpina refused to refund), And after all the car didn't start, PM leonard to help you. EWS system is K@K at times. Best of luck Dude

Sorry bro can't offer much advise other than I don't trust the advice of people that refer to vital electronic components as 'computer box'..

LZ how much will it cost to delete/remove EWS2 on my E36 95 320i? Nothing's wrong with it a the moment but I just don't like it.
