E36 318is Tuning

Hi guys,

A very close buddy of mine has a1998 E36 318is and is looking into tuning it.

Where should he start?

Decat?
Chip?
Software?

And what would be the expected gains?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Also, an engine swop is not an option for him, but adding a turbo is.

Obviously turbocharging would see great increases and offers great opportunities for tuning, bu how reliable willhe car be afterwards. This is his daily driver.
So please assist. As usual, any assistance will be appreciated.

The turbo would be the best way to go in terms of gains, but in my opinion putting a turbo on a car that is a daily drive is just asking for trouble.

I would first go for the decat+performance exhaust and filter, also he might want to look into a cold air induction kit, apparently you can then get some decent from it on an e36.
Then I would chip.

Not sure what the gains will be, but I am sure someone else can add some info with regards to that.
