My dad bought it from brand new i inherited it from him. Car is red with white interior. similar to the one for sale on autotrader. Car stood garaged for a long time had to redo all the rubbers and seals and do fluid flush on everything.

I have seen the 6 speed e34 m5 reach 300kmh+ on gps with nothing more than a chip exhaust and cams. IS the m3 capeble of those speeds with a chip end de limited ?

Well according to Wikipedia a stock E46 M3 can do 308km/h once delimited.

Kwl thats not bad. does it say what the top speed of a 3.8 6speed m5 is ?

I would expect about 270 km/h for a e34 M5 stock .

It's geared to do about 261kph at the rev limit in fifth gear. A 3.8 would obviously be faster. It's not geared as astronomically as the 540i, which would pull about 304km/h if it could rev to 6500 in 6th gear.

The 540i 6 speed does 314km/h at 6500 rpm and 280km/h at 5800 rpm (max power).

Stupidly long gearing.

Indeed! Like the car can actually reach 280 let alone 314... With a 3.15 final drive ratio the car is pretty much perfect.

The e34 540i 6-speed did 242 km/h in the Car magazine road test in Feb 1996 , I would expect it to pass 232 in 5th at 5800 and pull close to 260 at 6500 . In 6th gear it does 5000 at a speed limited 242 , so 280 at 5800 would be unobtainable , IMHO 255 to 262 would be realistic . ( Calculated from lower models power and tested speeds ) , at about 5450 revs .
The 3.15 diff would work.....when petrol gets cheaper .
Geared speeds at 6500 would be 57 , 97 , 145 , 197 , 242 and 292 in 6 th gear . (261 at 5800 in 6th should be reached if limiter removed - any one done that ? ) :thumbs::thumbs:

Unfortunately the 540i 6 speed uses different diff flanges than the standard automatic model so its not a case of old diff out, new diff in otherwise we would have tried it. Our 5 speed manual has a 3.15 diff and its pretty much perfect but cries out for a 6'th gear while cruising on the highway.

The 3.15 is awesome since you have allot of extra torque but the ratio's are still long enough so that you can stay on the power for longer. Should actually post a video sometime.

Is there a diff for my e35 m5 so that it does not top out at 270-280kmh ? want about a top end of 310kmh gearing.. cuz it tops out at 275+- and pulls hard into the rev limiter and has quite a vicious let off.

You can change the diff ration from the standard 3.91 to something more mild like a 3.64. This will result in longer ratio's however you will lose midrange torque.

The e28 M5 had something like a 3.7 which was perfect opposed to the e34's 3.91.
However, as stated by legacy, you will lose a lot of your torque
