E34 Getrag 260/6 gearbox input shaft bearing

Has anyone ever replaced their input shaft bearing on their Getrag 260 5 speed gearbox?

I need to know if it can be done without separating the box? Is it a difficult job?

It looks like the bearing comes out - however, getting that bearing out from the shaft side without damaging something may prove to be a little difficult.

Not clued up with boxes - but from what I see, looks like you may have to split the box to replace that.
