e34 Exhaust compatibility: 525i vs 520i

Hi guys,as the topic states - I need to find out if the e34 520i exhaust is the same or will fit onto a 525i....

I noted that the diameter of the pipe is the same, as well as the angle and placement of the rear box....the only thing i am not certain of, is if the front flange will connect to the existing 525 exhaust manifolds.

Can anyone shed some light on this matter. Would appreciate it!:ty:

I remember when I bought my E34 520i, that it had a rusted backbox and we decided to have a look at the options. After visiting a number of Exhaust shops we were told that the common 525i backbox would'nt fit and that the 520i backbox would need to be ordered from Germany since no one kept stock. Were quoted around R7500.

So we said screw it, and took it to De Graaf exhaust Pretoria and had them make up a backbox and tips. Cost about 2k but the sound was epic and made it worth every cent. I've also heard a neighbour with a E34 525i with a full custom exhaust from the headers all the way down, and wow, that thing sounded 6 cylinder Nirvana.

If they're both M50s then they should be compatible. Whip it off and compare them.

Hi Guys,

I didnt want to ripp my current system off until i knew it would fit.

I had some spare time and took the car in to blindly swop the exhaust out...When i initially battled the 520i exhaust off, i took mental pics and they told me they are the same as the 525i. Luckily the common point between the 2 was the M50 motors....I only anticipated some changes where the zorst fits onto the manifolds.

Long Story short, the M50 e34 520i exhaust, is a direct fit onto a M50 e34 525i.....so no more second hand exhaust fumes on any trip.
