E34 540i Expansion tank Filter?

Does the E34 M60 motor's expansion tank have a filter in it? I can't seem to one on my car and I'm not finding anything about it will google either. I'm assuming there would be a filter of some kind in the tank it self??

Not to my knowledge. Possibly dumb question, but why would it need a filter?

Mine didn't have one either.

I also replaced my bottle, and the second one didn't have one either.

I'd rather not post on a open forum what I found... a present left behind maybe years ago. All I'll say is that it's come loose and I hope that it floats. Only saw it's loose this morning so I must have been driving with it loose in the tank for a few days now.

Looking back I should have just removed it, but I didn't want the dash complaining all the time. Stupid :facepalm::facepalm:

Just chatted with rick540 and he says there's no way that the loose piece would get out of the tank. I'll be seeing if I can get it out. Don't like it being there.
