e34 525i with stock lsd and 2.7 litre engine?

Bought a e34 525i and came across that i had an lsd fitted.
Previous owner of the car said nothing had been added to the vehicle.
The previous owner also mentioned an upgraded engine and I've tested the vehicle against an e36 325i and cleanly out perform it and sit just shy of an e46 328i.
Any ideas?

Was an option as far as memory serves, and the type 188 LSD'd were available...

As for the engine life, who knows,
