There are comparable facts and spec, but they are not in the same league and therefore are not rivals in any way shape or form
I dont think anyone that will buy an M5 will look at a GT-R as an option due to it not being a replacement or alternative.

@Nic, I agree, if I could use an analogy, the M5 is a sledgehammer with a velvet suede covered handle and the GTR is a sharp precision surgical scapel. Pick up or abuse the GTR in the wrong way and you will get cut, whereas the M5 is more forgiving and easy to use quickly everyday.

Both are fantastic cars, but can not be compared to each other as they serve different purposes.

BMW F1 car, Nick Heidfeld at the helm, sub 6 seconds. BMW say its good for around 5minutes 15 seconds.

very true , no point comparing.. the GTR was built to a purpose, to raise awareness of the nissan brand, to make europe (and the rest of the world i guess) take notice, and raise the bar.. it has done all of that, this very thread is proof of that..

if bmw felt the need to do the same, they could also create a monster like that, but they are complacent in the fact that they are seen as world leaders already, and thus feel they have nothing to prove..

and thus a car like the GTR is more about economic politics than anything else i think.. nissan likes this kind rivalry, last car they did this with was the z32 300zx.. also made the world sit up and take notice (at that time!!)

I am far from brand blind.
In no way did I disregard Nissan or any other brand for that matter. I currently own another German make of car, use it daily in fact. If I was brand blind as you seem to think I am, do you think I would do that?
I think you chose to take offense to what I said and thats your deal, no need to make assumptions of a personal nature becuase a sentence of yours was construde and used in a manner which you did not foresee it being used.

Well lets see, take running costs over 5 years, since the Porsche has a 5year maintenace plan.

Okay now porsche give back great resale, and nissan not so much, so factor in what you lose.

So to summarise:
Depreciation is a lot more on the Nissan
What you spend to maintain the GTR is all lost immediately, and with running costs that are into the hundreds of thousands over 5 years if you drove the car in a spirited fashion.
Then lets take the interiors, the heritage, the brand you are buying into, the GTR may come out still SLYTLY cheaper, but its slower, has no heritage, doesnt come close to the brand Porsche is.
A great car, yes, a great bargain, I dont see it.

great time that, didnt expect it be slower since it is a 2012 model so they can try beat the germans, but the new 991 Turbo S is around the corer and will show it whats what..

im no expert in all the resale and that but i cant imagine in SA, where there are so few of them, that the price is going to drop that much. Porsche on the other hand with the new models poping up the whole time i can see dropping. again i can be wrong, this has been known to happen:rollsmile:

on the heritage part im going to have to disagree. the first GTR came in around 1969 and the first 911 1964 so theres not much in that. the GTR name and "godzilla" strikes fear in to peoples heart and is known as a car that punches WAY above its weight class. its the underdog and I love that about it.

that being said I dont think you buy these cars for the same reason. its not like an M3 and a C63 kind of argument.
