E30 Vs GTR

Yeah, they rather fork out the $$$ and develope a 5Series "GT", which imho is nothing more than a MPV version of the 5ser, and to stick a GT badge on that is pure add insult to injury. What do they think we are stupid and cant read between the marketing hocus pocus? :nonono:

I can understand the ///M SUVs but that one (5ser GT) sticks out like a sore thumb.

They have all the technical know how, to put together a fantastic show stopper, but it always fizzles in bits and pieces here and there, in different model line-ups. The tech is all there, just hasn't been packaged as a collective model range topper.

My ideal Super BMW would be:-

1. Engine from the next M6 (V8 twin turbo) boost opens up endless power/torque configurations
2. Mated to a M-DCT transmission strengthened/optimized
3. Rear wheel drive (obviously)
4. Mid engined
5. Something low-slung like a new 6
6. Wheelbase length in between E92 and new 6
7. Pure 2 Seater
8. Coupe body shell (2dr)
9. Lightweight CF body with CF or aluminium chassis
10. Ceramic brakes
11. M3 E92 suspension and diff but upgraded or improved on
12. An emphasis on Driving dynamics first and efficient dynamics 2nd

Who knows maybe I just described the M8..................we wil know
in time...............

all bmw have to do is take the bits from the M5, up to boost and put them into a sleek light body so that it weighs about 1300kg... job done

Thats more or less the M8! No better name to mark a flagship BMW than the M8!

Maybe we shud write to BMW and use the youtube links of GT-R's beating up BMW's to create a stir and reason for them to show the Japs a thing or 2!!! :biglol:

I dont think BMW care that none of their cars are faster than the GTR. If they cared about that, then they would have a car to match the Audi R8 V10, etc etc etc which they dont. They are fully aware that should they build a supercar, there is not much out there that would be able to touch it. Reason why they don't is because it won't make them money. Those cars don't really sell that well and if they do, it takes too long to make them and their profit margins are not great compared to their other models.

BMW don't have to prove anything to anyone. Just because the GTR is faster than any BMW, doesn't make Nissan better or more profitable than BMW. Not by a long shot! :=):

When it comes down to comparisons i dont think profitability is something you see in the spec sheet but nonetheless i hear you and i fully agree that bmw dont have to prove themselves to anyone

Well an M8 project may not improve the returns in any way, I agree BMW do not have to prove anything to anyone, but being complacent in the motor industry just does not cut it these days. The R8 did a fantastic job in boosting Audi's image worldwide, as it was a real head turner when it was released as Audi was being criticized for being generic/boring at the time.

BM just needs a car that makes everyone take notice & say WOW, doesnt matter how it goes, just one that says "Jeez look at that BM" and not "Oh there goes another BM" Eg. to us the M5 looks fantastic and so powerful, but to others who have untrained eyes, it looks just like any other BM, & doesn't pull much off on the looks side, in fact it can be mistaken for a M-SPort 5Ser. Hopefully an M8 can bring in that Wow/X Factor in the desirability stakes....if it ever makes it to production.

how many people have moved over to audi since they made the R8... now obviously its not the only reason why...

but alot of people will be swayed by the R8 because they want a little piece or it or they think if audi can make the R8 it must be easy for them to build lesser cars...

You are absolutely right!!! Every manufacturer needs to do something to keep people interested. Not everybody who buys a car is an enthusiast, so you need something to attract the non-enthusiasts and keep them interested.

At the same time though, you cannot ignore the fact that the GTR has a Nissan badge on it. I'm not discounting Nissan's engineering ability or anything, but the brand doesn't make it worth while for BMW to "respond" to the GTR. People just don't aspire to own Nissans and nothing about driving a Nissan says "you have made good decision in your life and now you have arrived"

I dont think BMW have to prove anything as they are already well established and a recognised premuim German brand and made a name in motorsport, i do however think thats its about taking a risk and leap ahead, more to illustrate the engineering genuis we all know they are capable of.

Make a supercar LEGEND!

At the end of the day, come hell or fast GTR, im sticking to my Beemer, i would like an ///M though!

I don't think you can expect any more from BMW this year.I mean just look at the cars they bringing out this year, they really stepped up their game. The new M5 is a potential GTR beater and it will do so with class,a comfortable rear seat and huge boot to make everybody in the family happy.the same can't be said for the GTR.I know the GTR is a beast but its just not enough for me to piss on the BMW brand

BMW could and would NEVER build a supercar as cheaply as the Japs did. Its not their style or way.
How else could they then justify the M5/M6/M3cab/X5M/X6M? They car would be more R8-Porsche Turbo territory.

That being said, it would be EPIC! GT-R is a Monster in its own right and own league!

Well the BMW ///M5 is a beast but check this out :

even though the result was such, lets not forget the this test makes no sense coz its a family saloon vs super car!!!!

But i agree that the GTR hasn't enough to rival what the BMW brand has made itself over the decades, infact in my own opinion, no Jap brand has what it takes to be in the league of its German competition.

The Germans make the best automobiles!!!!!!

I just wish BMW would make a super car, im not interested in the GT-R and so on, im sure all the fanatics will appreciate BMW being in the supercar category!

My 2 cents!

Dont want to find ANY of those cars anywhere but my driveway, especially the last R35! Montrous!

As for the ESS M3, that is a beast!

Why are some of the guys running low octanes and leaded fuel?

GTR does 7.28 at the ring...... Fastest BMW is??? Nuff said!

Seen as we comparing Apples with Roids

BMW F1 car, Nick Heidfeld at the helm, sub 6 seconds. BMW say its good for around 5minutes 15 seconds.

Nissan GT-R who?

I wonder which is the fastest F1 car? I bet BMW is in the top 3!

Not many have done testing, if any. BMW's was done in 2006 as part of a publicity campaign. Nothing more.
