You said it Moranor. Starting off with the Diff mount bush.

Ok so this is the info I have on the car thus far. Had a chat with the prev owner and this is what he tells me.

The car has...

Dart Walter Heads. Imported
Stainless Steel Valves
Crower Rollerbearing cam and rockers
Edelbrock Intake
750CFM Holley Carb
K+N Filter
Probe Drop Forged 'Pop Up' Pistons
H-beam rods
V Rod Rings
Everything Balanced and blueprinted
Hardened crank
HP oil Pump
Centre Force Clutch - good for 1000hp
Bmw LSdiff. off of a 325i - I believe this one came with an open diff originally. Pre 86 manufacture
Borg Warner T5 5Spd gearbox
MSD Ignition
TNT exhaust - that is now shot, but will be replaced soon. (Also it still has the std 325i back box which will go soon too)

And that's about it engine wise.

It does have the brake booster mod. Quite far removed in the front left corner of the bay.

Getting the car back on thursday 23rd Feb

if you dropping the subrame to fix the diff mount get some good bushes on it now its not a fun job :)

Tell me about it. Working on the floor was back breaking. Having it sorted. AS well as the Exhaust. It was dangling way too low. The heatshield raised along with the xorst. Should give some clearance.

That suspension is haunting me. The car is squatting like a sumo wrestler. Hardly has any traction, just running on the inside of the wheels. Leaning toward standard suspension for now all round...

Ok so didn't get it back on the 23rd! :argh: Which made me miss the run with it. Went with the Audi Instead. The car is only ready today. But alas I'm away until thursday. So will collect it on Thursday morning.

R9650 Later! Two new constructed engine mounts. New Gearbox mount, new diff mount bracket (welding on crossmember).

I hope the work turned out ok as I just read that Panelbeater BS thread and it leaves a bitter after taste. But what can one do but take a risk and trust someone that was recommended to you?

Holding thumbs. Will see what the workmanship was like.

I bought a buffer and got some wax  Busy busy weekend ahead. Also want to wash those filthy carpets. I think they were cream once upon a time... Also haven't tackled the dash cracks yet either. Have some schemes up my sleeve

Oh yes also contacted Plasti Dip SA and glad to see they distributing to Builders warehouse now! Along with their VLP and Vynal products

Car is nicely tucked away in the garage  Where the 540 used to stand. More on the 540 later... I am very happy with the green little monster now. She drives like an entirely different machine. So steady and solid it's amazing what mounts and bushes can do...

I am quite pleased with the work these guys did. Took out the old and made new reinforced mounts all round. And they look solid! And the proof is in the pudding. Feels fantastic.

Here's the engine mount taken from below a pit at autowiel. A bit dark but it clears the branches now both sides and they both symmetrical and the angles are better.

One of the newly constructed diff mount. Remember that flimsy single hinge? This baby is seriously mounted now.

A pic of the xorst while I was under the car (it sounds quieter and more refined)

Special Flat boxes made for improved ground clearance

New gearbox mount

Here you go.

I just realised now how much smoke actually comes out the exhaust. It may be that the oil is overfull despite the dipstick saying it's in the ok range. (Add and don't Add. Halfway in the don't add range). However it does smell of fuel to. But surely not that rich. It's been rejetted recently. Don't ask me what jets though.

On another note, I flushed the radiator quickly before fetching the girlfriend in her. Man was that water filthy. Can't believe the muck that came out of there. Poured another couple of litres through while it was open to make sure the gunk was out. Topped it now incl 2 litres of anti-freeze so feeling good about it. The car still sucks a bit in traffic but it puts a huge smile on my face

Was trying to keep it on the low down but the 540 is getting a new heart. That's right a totally rebuilt M60 motor. Went in today to have a look at the shop and progress. Motor is out and I'm having the rust fixed while at it. As well as new UCA bushes, fuel filter etc fitted. They damaged the rear bumper in the towing process but will fix it for free. They we're rebuilding a V10 M5 in there as well! They mostly work on BMW and porsche's. The owners really know their stuff. Have to advertise the Audi now. Should get the 540 back late next week

So I tried my hand at drifting the green baby today, just before gym, upstairs empty parking lot.
Still very shy with the throttle. It screeches like nothing. Fun way to get the blood pumping just before a weight training session :joy:
