E30 325is A Gangster Car

"iS" is 100% totally a gangster car and is the reason I sold mine.

A clean one attracts so much attention on the road driving around is seriously unpleasant with strangers trying to stop you, everybody tries to dice and you get mobbed trying to get into it after shopping.

Try put in fuel at the garage....get mobbed.

Drive through a dogey area and strangers at robots reach into their jackets and you drive off through the red.

After a year I found it had become a parked in the garage ornament and I sold it.

Here's the car I owned.

SAD story.

It's a shame you needed to let go of such a beautiful, well maintained, one of the cleanest I've seen specimen because of fear for your safety.

Well IMO after reading some of the comments I do agree its kinda gangster , just sad to see such a car been termed that.

IMO I just found it odd if one has to look at the Top 10 cars listed in SNS E30 was looking very odd there.

But why are we surprised at the association? The whole attraction was the car's dynamic ability, and the time NOTHING was even close! And it's not the the E30, it was E28 528i & 535i, even E36s (esp. in coupe form). I get stopped at almost every roadblock (ok fine, cosmos black paint and dark tint is not doing me any favours!).

The only other cars of that era are Conquest Rsi, Golf Gti, Opel Superboss...BMW wins!

But yah the safety aspect is a very real issue...

ive been wondering this for a long time...

are all old bmws going to become like this? I would love to have an e30, but everyone i know that has had one has had issues with it being stolen, stopped ect...

are all bmws (especially the 3 series) destined for thug life in their old age?

Speed and sound did not thumb suck the Top 10 list, it was voted for by readers on the speed and sound face book site:

If you would think gangster you have to go for the following

Black Merc S500 (Yakuza)
BMW 750I (Russian Mob)
Caddilac (PIMPS)
ETC......

You cant really put a 325is as an icon gangster car.

ive still got an original golf VR6 thats still in really good nick. its nothing compared to the 325is but it is also seen as a "gangster" car. evertime i drive it people stop me, petrol stations are an event and i cant park it anywhere thats not locked up other wise it will be stolen. ive had an attempted hijacking in the car as well so have to choose the right times and places to drive the car. wont be a problem to sell if i ever want to though, i have 3 guys that phn me once a month to remind me to call them if i ever wanna sell the car:) plus i bought it for 85k 7 years ago and got an offer for 90k a few days ago...

the e34 is a proper gang car why... because its easy to put someone in the boot...

Apparently E34s were used for cash-in-transit heists because of their speed, cost and relative safety.

You wanna talk true ganster car!

Here in Somerset West driving around there is a black Chrysler 300C with 20" chrome spinners and tinted windows....... Every time I see it you can practically see a residue of white powder on it. I'm sure it reeks of Ho inside too.

Disgusting things, I thought the yanks were over that phase of auto building.

I'm just glad my version of the E34 isn't so well known like the IS. While I was deciding to buy the 540i the thought of getting an IS instead did cross my mind, but the fear of it getting stolen the same day I get it was to much. I would still love a proper clean IS though. And seeing that the E34 is blue I'll get a Red IS. :)

No serious you only buy an iS if you carry more firepower on you than the average drug dealer and are willing to use it....daily.....

In reality owning one.........It's so not funny taking a Sunday drive and becomming the centre of attention for SA's underworld..... was just not worth it.

I finally sold the car after stopping for fuel at the N2 ultra city and before I could blink there were two gangster street racers sitting in it "Just to look". These okes were so mean and big they could have just driven off with absolutely zero argument from me.

I only had a 323i 2-door with the iS kit, and yah, getting 'mobbed' at traffic lights, garages and stuff made driving real uneasy. Just kept it out of dodge areas and kept my eyes peeled.

You guys read SnS

I once bought one, but I almost felt like I had to wrap it up inside a H.ustler so that no one would see me buying an SnS

The 325iS is my fav BMW of all time. The stance, the look and the sound. But yes it has a reputation, no doubt. My E30 325i used to attract a lot of unwanted attention, so I really really cant imagine driving the icon will be like.

@ P1000 BTW what's wrong with SnS? I buy it religiously and am proud of it. Keeps me up to date the the latest technology.

What wrong with SnS from a BMW viewpoint is that content and features are directly opposite to what makes for awesome BMW mods, BMW mods being classy, understated yet aggressive, whereas SnS is all about over the top, tacky and common.
