I'm looking at getting either a e30 325 or an e36 328 as a second/project car. Which would be the better bet in terms of costs, availibility of performance bits etc?

Nothing so radical. Just want the pros and cons of buying these cars second hand. Has for mods looking more at things like strut braces, springs/dampers, performance headers and a free flow.Want reliable performance not something temperamentle. So e30 or e36?

I think go test drive both. The E30 will be more fun to drive with a freeflow and branch with its tail out everywhere.

E36 will be more reliable day to day I think. Im biased towards e30s and believe they have a much more involving drive. But these days they cost quite alot for a nice one and even then they are 20years old so stuff will break.

Now have to go out and look! Going to be a mission to find an unmolested e30 at a reasonable price.

An e30 is bought with the heart. If its what the heart wants, nothing else will satisfy you.

I WANT an e30 and no matter what else i bought it just does not fill that gaping hole in my heart.

2013, i must own an e30.

Just by driving an e30 325i will be enough to persuade you

For handling an e36 328 will do the trick.
For passion an e30 fullstop.

It really depends on what it is you are looking for on a very personal level.

As to e30s being expensive that is correct, they are expensive to buy and maintain.
I guess it is consistent with how many cars are out there for sale and their overall condition.
At the age they are at now pricing scales are based on what a seller wants and not so much what a buyer is prepared to pay. The neat cars are weekend toys and as such their owners do not need to sell.....unless of course you make them a very appealing offer.
Good Luck in your search.

Put all your time money and effort into fixing up an e30 and then it gets stolen/hijacked because some local wants a new spinning toy, no thank you. E36 gets my vote as they are much less of a target and have a lot more headroom for modification.

E30 is the business, my wife will kick me in the nuts if I got anything else. Luckily I found '88 e30 325i convertible, 3 owners from new (me the 3rd) with full service history. Stock standard. looks like new... Paid R42000 for her, She has not dropped me once yet, except for the night a kettle burst under my dash (heater valve).
:praise:
Just need to get tires now, you can't help but spinning from time to time....

Its really painful watching all those e30s being tortured in those Spinning shows. Is it a urban myth that when a hijacker dies his mates torch an e30 in his memory?
