Somebodys just offered me a m535i for R2000-00 the body is
Rust free and has all the beadings. It requires a windscreen
,Starter, front indicator lenses and the interior needs to be
Upholstered.
From my knowledge these cars were powerfull in their time
And it was the the first official "M" car

If you have the space for a project like this and all the papers for the car are in order, I would go for it right now. You can also PM the details of the car to Coisman (on this forum) he can check out the info on the car on enatis just so you are safe.

Edit: also get the car up on a lift or just jack it up so that you can have a proper look underneath, to make sure there is really no rust or other problems, unless you have already done this :)

for 2k, I would buy it, the engine is worth 5 to 8k on its own. Auto or manual gearbox ?

Just bought it
The engine has been overhauled. Windscreen and starter are the only things worrying me

Starter is not an issue I would say, little bit of research should sort you out. Even if you find one at a scrapyard (I think Electron scrapyard still has that motor) and have it rebuilt, or you may be able to find it new.

Windscreen, I dont know, you may be lucky as PG or somebody may still carry it as a new item, alternatively, you may have to go hunting at scrapyards or find another being stripped for spares,

Everything is doable, pity you dont have samples, but I would not stress too much, bit of effort on your part and you'll get it all.

You can even try BMW, although I suspect that buttsex may be in ur future :)

Hi Cuteboy, The E12 is a great machine 160kw standard, A nice cam will boost it to 202Kw, normally aspirated.(Holly 4 Barrel)
I am using one as a donor vehicle for my 1941 Chevy Coupe hybrid. the suspension is Jag. back & front. The 535i (big bore) motor & gearbox is my power plant. I have welded the BM's firewall & tunnel into the Chevy, now I can mount the fan blower, aircon, console, handbrake etc just like the oroginal car. I rebuilt the complete motor. I also have a spare one complete. I am using the oroginal vacuum boosters as well as all the other accesories. If you need any dope on a rebuild or spare parts, just shout. I am in Cape Town. Regards Punch!!

What a bargain! We had an E12 since 1985 - my dad sold in 2003 for R6500 because it was just standing.

How I wish I still had that car but space was a problem then.

That is one helluva bargain - enjoy the project!

Terrifying handling and just for that reason - I LOVED it!!!

you are telling me.... I cannot recount the number of times my old man got into all sorts of sh1t with this car. On one occasion in the Drakensberg he came flying over a rise and the road just turned to clay and ice. The poor car ended up in a ditch up to the door handles in gunk.

The ass on that car was so happy the steering wheel could have been considered an optional extra:)

LOL - They were a handful, but immensly satisfiying on the few occasions you got it right - Loads of character and always waiting to catch u out the instant u let your guard down - great fun though

My choice would be the red/Orange colour with the black alcantara - manual of course (dog-leg was the close ratio model)
