E12 Automatic gearbox

Hi Guys, i am rebuilding a E12 518 1979 model, is it true that the automatic gearbox is 3 speed, gears change nicely expect when it gets to gear 3 the revs are too high....it's like it can still go to 4th or fifth gear.

Yes it is true.
A 3 speed box.

Thanks a1exander......which 4/ 5 speed gearbox box would fit nicely without having to change the drive shaft?

None the 4HP is a larger box.
Consider a diff swap rather
