Dyno run on my "new" engine.

As some of you might remember, my 330d swallowed a swirl flap late last year. This weekend the car was for it's 1st service at Clutchy's workshop in East London.

The car was mapped by Xcede more than a year ago and it was not on a dyno since the engine was redone. I asked Clutchy if he know someone with a dyno that can help us on a Sat and he said no problem.

See att graph of the power output, think Clutchy and his team done an outstanding job on this engine. Running strong and very, very smooth.

These are the figures on the wheels.
Thanks for reading! and thumbs up for people that can do work like this.

@ Andy. I will never drive a km with swirlflaps again, remove them as soon as you can as it hurts the pocket like hell to do the repair!

Barkie is that on the dyno near Hemmingways ?
147 kw on the wheels , about 175 / 180 Kw at the flywheel .
Nice torque from 2000 to 3000 revs .

Peak torque is 426Nm at about 3200 revs with 147 Kw at about 3400 revs , very close .

I should get about 160 Kw on the wheels with the 540i ....torque ........:thumbdo: damm beaten by a tractor ...:roflol:

let us know how fuel consumption and performance are .

@ Raybimmer, consumtion on the open road was 4.9 to EL and back 5.1
Did run a bit more speed once or twice where the road was open, all legal speeds, remember that
This figure is a bit optimistic as when I work it out from tank to tank it's a little bit above that.
Must admit that I was running in a very relaxed 130 mode. If I travel with my trailer I stil manage 6.5. But, if I floor it, it will go all the way up to about 14. You wil not be able to get a lot of power with a little fuel I suppose! The counter was reset for the dyno and it showed 17 after the run.
Was just one run in 3rd gear. Very happy with the results and even Clutchy told me that the engine is running very smooth. This is for sure no dragster but I have put a grim face on a few people in the past!

Overall a great car. Just want to do the EGR delete. Now these guy's are telling me that I must flock the SW and chip it. He can then add some power and smooth out the torque curve and keep the power on for a bit longer, RPM wise. Life is tuff hey!

Have a look and see which way now . To me the peak torque and peak power are too close and the torque dip can be sorted out .I dont think you will get a lot more power but you will get driveability with a smoother torque graph , it will feel as if it is pulling smooth and fast .
I get about 11.5 to FB and back with the 540i .....The King to EL return takes about 20 min.....stuffs my economy up !!
Good luck .

@ RAYBIMER, The graph makes it look like a big dip in power, but it does not feel that bad. If you take the RPM to 4000 and shift, you do have very good performance. Think I will rather work on my Z3 than the 330d. Do have a few other things to do at the moment. If you come to FBT again, let me know next time.

I just looked at my previous dyno run and the graph is much better.
Will speak to Clutchy about this. This was before the engine rebuild.
This graph show the crank power!
Baybe my turbo is calling me!!!:argh:

Wow , 4749 revs ....
The older sheet figures look better and the torque curve is flatter .
Will say hi when I am there again .

I think that those figures are spot on for an E46 330d with just software.

The second graph showing the 192kw / 510nm Torque is a Flywheel figure and as such should not be viewed as the true power. Its what comes through those rear wheels that makes the difference. The drive train in your car may result in greater losses than a similar e46 330d (wear on parts and other stuff)...

if your car is putting 147kw / 426nm torque, that is amazing. thats the quoted flywheel power being put to the wheels...

I am not sure if you have an auto or manual. With a manual, you have better options, but with the auto... the quest for more power may see you destroy your gearbox.

@ Xmax, I have a manual, sometimes I'm very tempted to add some power but where do you stop? As I would hate to chase more power and destroy
something else.

When I was waiting for my car to be dynoed, they were busy with a 330i and they have obtained very nice numbers with freeflowing, cams and chipping. Output on the wheels was 152kw. And the soundtrack was amazing!

@ Raybimmer, it is unreal how fast these tractors can obtain high revs.
If you are not careful in 1st and 2nd, you easily rev to high and waste TIME
