DSC warning lights

I had my cars sump gasket replaced about a week ago. The car went in with no warning lights on and came back with dsc, tyre pressure and orange brake warning lights on. According to the mechanic he scanned the system and was picking up dsc, abs pressure sensor and steering angle faults and they have been there for a while. I knew something was suspect when I got the car and he asked me didnt I notice that these warning lights were on all the time? Like I am such an idiot that I have been driving around without noticing my dash lit up like a Christmas tree all this time. My question is what could they possibly have stuffed up during the process of replacing the sump gasket that could make these warning lights suddenly come on and not go away? This is the second time I have given my car in the last 11 years to an unknown mechanic and both times came back with warning lights on that were never there so frustrating :rage:.

Wheel Speed Sensor? Does your cruise control work?

Could even be Murphy's Law that it so happened to go out and they didn't cause the issue.

Thanks SubLoaded. I have not tested the cruise control. I will check it out. I seriously doubt that warning lights just happened to go crazy then day the car went it for major repairs. While its not impossible I doubt I had nothing to do with whatever was done on the car. Now I'm just trying to figure out what. I know that they would have had to fiddle around the suspension and subframe. I just want to troubleshoot what could have possibly been disturbed as I dont have finances to replace all these expensive sensors that suddenly happened to give up the ghost all at once.

Do you have a code reader?

Check error code what side it shows the ABS sensor error, then swop it from left to right and see then if the error code shifts to the other side.

What car do you have?

My E46 DSC light is on. It basically goes of when the car picks up that the steering and wheel is not aligned, if you lucky you can have your steering angle sensor reinitialized and go for alignment and the warning lightshould go away.

Orrrr... It could also be that the sensor is cracked and needs to be replaced.

Please note, this is from my experience.

They have to drop sub frame in order to remove sump, they probably damaged the wheel speed sensor or the wiring in doing so, diagnostics will tell you exactly which wheel speed sensor is damaged, if a knowledgeable person reads the car

OP, maybe try the following.

1. Switch car on
2. Start car but dont drive
3. Turn steering wheel left full lock, then right full lock, then left again full lock
4. Make steering wheel straight and move forward about 200m
5. Lights should go off if all is in order.

It might be possible that he tampered with some suspension parts close to the sump as to get access to the guy. If you had a diagnostic tool I would have said check the steering angle degrees. It shouldnt be more then 5°C in both directions + and -.

Try this as it is the easiest and cheapest way to check if there is anything wrong with the sensors. Just remember there are 5 of these suckers, 4 on the wheel, one each and then the one in the steering wheel.

Hope this helps. And the cruise control will disable the moment you try to use it, 2 more errors will come up once you pull the cruise control lever. Trust me, been there :rage:

Thanks for all the replies guys. Lizzard I tried your suggestion but the lights remain on. I think my next step is to get a diagnostic test done to see exactly which sensor is faulty. Im thinking 922-ZN might be on to something as they also washed the engine so a lot of dirt may have messed up on of the wheel sensors. I will check it out this weekend.

If I was still in Gauteng I would have come help you with some diagnostic, as I had this problem before. I hope someone here can help you without breaking the bank.

You will need to check the wheel speed sensor readings as well as the steering angle sensor. The fact that the brake light is orange means it might just be a recalibration that is needed or something as it would have been red if it was a major error.

If u can get a code reader I am willing to borrow you a front and rear sensor from my car for a day over a weekend to trouble shoot.

To replace the sump gasket, means taking out the sump which means taking out the front subframe, suspension and steering. It’s possible that the mechie didn’t mark off the parts when he took it off which would result in the alignment being off upon re-assembly and the Christmas lights.

I had a similar issue on my E90 330d after fitting coilovers. Turned out to just be simple alignment. The car basically sae that the wheels were turning at the same speed, this the car should be going straight, but my steering wheel was say 5deg off center. After getting alignment done the errors cleared after a 10km drive. I remember a wheel speed sensor error and steering angle error
