If your rear lights are working perfectly, there should be no need to use it on poorly lit roads, BUT, if you suspect someone is following you, then flick them on.

Rear lights are fine, I use it because it shines on the left and right pavement so showing more of the road, but only on bad lit roads

Yesterday whilst stuck in a bit of traffic behind a woman in a Hyundai I actually got out my car and when and told her to kindly turn her rear foglights off. She obliged and apologised.

It's worse at night of course... first give them a couple flashes, if they don't get out of full retard mode then there's no hope for them... :nonono:

Agreed - but after all it is a safety feature - no harm in making yourself as visible as possible in poor visibility conditions,,, not just fog

But its a "Fog Lamp" not a "Poorly Lit Road Lamp".

No Fog - It should NOT be on.

Definitely the "look at me" syndrome. You it's those clowns that jump into the car, start it up, and then turn on all the lights like christmas decorations. Seen it ALOT on new F30's. Your car is hot already... no need to try and attract more attention.
Must say, using it to alert someone about their high-beams in your mirrors is cool though, will definitely try it out... and then swich them off again

Lol at the guys who use parking lights and fogs during the day when your car has awesome angel eye drls as standard:flyfun:

Maybe more reason not to use it.

When I hit the brake in heavy rain, I want my brake lights to be clear and BRIGHT.

With the driving lights on and the brighter rear Fog lamps on as well, it will kill the "brightness" of the brake light. More chance of being rear ended.

It's still better to have the rear fogs on than hazards in a down pour like some idiots do. :nonono:

Heavy rain is not an emergency.

Ok so Saturday night I had a fool behind me with his bright lights on, blinding the crap out of me! Decided to put my rear fog on and see if it works but nothing :thumbdo: Idiot still stayed behind me with his bright lights on, slowed him right down to a complete stop, he tried flashing me and that got him to turn them off

You guys are taking the terms "fog lights" way to literally... see here

From http://www.polity.org.za/polity/govdocs/regulations/1999/roadregs06.html:
(6) No person shall operate on a public road, a motor vehicle while any fog lamp fitted to such vehicle is lit, except in conditions of poor visibility caused by snow, fog, mist, dust or smoke.

Nobody really cares in freakish conditions where vision is badly impaired. We hate it most on clear nights, and a little bit less in daytime, and it is illegal to boot. This is what the thread is about.

Normal rain? NO. Daytime? NO. Night? NO. Poorly lit roads? wtf? fix your lights.

It's not that hard to figure out, rear fogs are dangerous if used incorrectly (just like the hand brake...)

Easy money for traffic cops. But then again they're probably does not know it's against the law.

To those who do not know why we complain about it:
IT IRRITATES THE DRIVER BEHIND YOU IF IT IS ON AND THERE IS NO FOG/MIST
