If your rear lights are working perfectly, there should be no need to use it on poorly lit roads, BUT, if you suspect someone is following you, then flick them on.

Agreed - but after all it is a safety feature - no harm in making yourself as visible as possible in poor visibility conditions,,, not just fog
tinovittee said:Definitely the "look at me" syndrome. You it's those clowns that jump into the car, start it up, and then turn on all the lights like christmas decorations. Seen it ALOT on new F30's. Your car is hot already... no need to try and attract more attention.
Must say, using it to alert someone about their high-beams in your mirrors is cool though, will definitely try it out... and then swich them off again

But its a "Fog Lamp" not a "Poorly Lit Road Lamp".
No Fog - It should NOT be on.

Maybe more reason not to use it.
When I hit the brake in heavy rain, I want my brake lights to be clear and BRIGHT.
With the driving lights on and the brighter rear Fog lamps on as well, it will kill the "brightness" of the brake light. More chance of being rear ended.

It's still better to have the rear fogs on than hazards in a down pour like some idiots do. :nonono:

No fog, no fog lights! Inconsiderate pricks!
(6) No person shall operate on a public road, a motor vehicle while any fog lamp fitted to such vehicle is lit, except in conditions of poor visibility caused by snow, fog, mist, dust or smoke.

You guys are taking the terms "fog lights" way to literally... see here
From http://www.polity.org.za/polity/govdocs/regulations/1999/roadregs06.html:
(6) No person shall operate on a public road, a motor vehicle while any fog lamp fitted to such vehicle is lit, except in conditions of poor visibility caused by snow, fog, mist, dust or smoke.
Huh? I care..Cyclone101 said:Nobody really cares in freakish conditions where vision is badly impaired.
That's the reason for my post :facepalm:Cyclone101 said:We hate it most on clear nights, and a little bit less in daytime, and it is illegal to boot. This is what the thread is about.
Normal rain? NO. Daytime? NO. Night? NO.
It's not that hard to figure out, rear fogs are dangerous if used incorrectly
