Driver side window repair

My e36 has a busted drivers side front window. The window won't close completely and when you push the up button it tends to want to go down again. My first guess is window mechanism. I managed to get it closed about 99 percent. Wife will get some wind noise tomorrow, but it won't close any further.

What you guys think? Window mechanism?

Not to worry. Found the damage. Of the four fixing points on the mechanism, one was without a bolt/nut, one bolt was loose and this resulted in 3 of the 4 mounting points shearing. Total metal fatigue. One is completely torn off. Fixed it for now by putting in the 4th bolt and tightening the rest.

Will get a replacement unit soon.

The joy did not last. Fitted the door panel just now, gave the window a quick check and then.... Snap! Second mounting sheared off. Managed to get the window closed, but seems that I will go scrapyard crawling tomorrow.

That sucks, but at least you know what the problem is and that is already half the battle, or at least that is what I tell myself :)

Biggest battle is finding an hour to do the repair. Wife gets home after 6 only. Then its supper, bath kids, wash bottles, make bottles..... The list goes on.

By 8:30 I have time. Who wants to start work on a car that time of the night?
Also, if I hit a snag and can't finish the repair, I am screwed, cause come 7am the next day, she is off again.

Also its never a good idea to start working or to do work on a car at night, so easy to drop and lose stuff forever.

Hi
My mechanism broke in Desember!
BMW wanted R1750 for a new one

I phoned Bruce's BMW they had a aftermarket one for R400-00,i was a bit scared to try it out,but he promised me they work just as good as the BMW part!

So i bought it and installed it and it work 100%

@Leon: You didn't perhaps ask for a price from Cliftons M3 autospares as well?

I phoned them just now, and the girl asked if I was Leon. Thought it might be you. lol

They wanted 550 for the aftermarket one, and 750 for a second hand original one.

Got one from them now. Inflation is a bitch though. Two months later and it is 450.

I will bargain though.

So lately the windo was useless. Two mountings points completely sheared off, and it was a mess.

This afternoon I decided it's now or never and proceeded to strip the door. Removed the old mechanism and started on fitting the new unit.

Turned out to be a bit of a mission, cause the damn window kept slipping out of it's runners.

Eventually I got the hang of it, got it in, bolted it down, and gave it a test run.
All is good until........

The fsking wire from the central locking solinoid hooked on the window guide! Ripped the bastard thing right off! Guess where... At the point where it goes into the MOULDED solinoid! Can't even rewire it. I have to replace the solinoid

!loody hell!!!!
