Downpipes on an F10 M5

Hi, I read the article on the forum of the effect of downpipes on F series M3/M4 with great interest - especially Sherwin's comments as he will know. What is the effect of putting on a set of downpipes on an F10 M5 with a BMS Stage 1 tune? Are the results similar to the M3/M4 - i.e. more noise with some torque gain but no/minimal peak HP gain? Thanks.

That mod to any stock turbo car gives an increase.

What you asking is the very basic tune. After a while the bug will bite and you will be chasing more.............:cartel:

on an M5 it makes 10-15 kw on the wheels up here. downpipes from the factory have changed in the last few years. They have low CPSI rated catalytic converters from the factory. In past years it was common to have 400 cell catts from the factory. Nowadays some porsches and the M4 come with 100 cell catts and some manufacturers and starting to make 50 Cell catts for their "RS" type cars.

Lots of HP gain from everything I've read. 40hp is the lowest of the gains I've heard of.

hey bud, please don't take this the wrong way. I make money from selling downpipes and the more I sell the more money I make. But its impossible to get 40hp from a DP. If you want to use your car as an example for the community, go dyno it on 3 different dynos yourself, and I will supply a set of catless downpipes (brand of your choice), for you to go back to those same dynos and redyno after fitting the DP.

Hi - Not on downpipes only - was referring to BMS Stage1 + downpipes Kolbe mentioned in the first post - I should have specified since the title only mentions downpipes. Heard of plenty of examples of big gains with this setup on torque and HP lowest being +40hp.

When you adding the tune and downpipes Llew

Still lots of plan left to go Dees which I'm not prepared to risk even with safe power mods. My cosmetic stuff has all been done except for a lip. TMSS Downpipes and new gaskets are sitting on a shelf in my garage (deal too sweet to pass up). With the way BMW is clamping down it is not worth the effort to me on a car that isn't short of power to begin with and which already struggles for traction. I also don't want to be tied down to one or two 'friendly' dealers in the event of something going wrong. Of course there are plenty of guys who want or even need these solutions.

Instead of spending all that money on something removable for the purposes of being undetectable or even more for an approved solution, I'd rather do something like a hex tune which I feel is a superior solution from what I've read when the time comes than the stage 1 BMS.

Hex is incredible and I had a hex tuned M5 go in for a service and get scanned and nothing was picked up. Not trying to defraud the BMW GMbH group, just saying.

I put BMS stage 1, straight pipes and DP's on my old M5 and got around 420wkw and 800nm

my current one is stock.

I am gain for test on a M4:biglol:

Back to topic OP on my m135i I gain 20wkw exactly with just downpipes, was actually hoping M cars would gain more but i guess every car is different.

M4 is a totally different setup compared to an M135i. Why don't you do the test for the forum?
