Door Open Warning while Driving

Hey Guys,

All of a sudden, while driving to Badplaas on Friday afternoon the car starts to BEEP and throw a door open signal. Its not limited to one door. Each time it throws the error its a different door.

The doors are closed, i stopped on the side of the road, opened and closed the doors again. The doors lock as normal @ 20km/h.

When it throws the signal, the interior lights come on for a brief second or 2 and then go off. It does this with the car switched off also.

Now the wierd part is, this only happens if my headlights are on. In any position (park lights or driving), it throws the door open signal. If i switch off my headlights, no Beeps and Bongs... If i switch the car off, switch the headlights on, it does the same but no error, the interior lights just come on every few seconds.

Also, when it does throw the error, if i come to a stop. Then take off again, at 20km/h it locks the doors (even though they are locked).

I have tried to google, i dont think others have experienced this issue. Any idea's for a beep and bong clear?

The bong for 3 odd hours is annoying!!!

Thank in Advance
Arbee

Maybe has something to do with your New headlights installed or the LED kits?

i am hoping not and dont think it is but these cars technology nowadays, everything is linked FFS!

hope you come right bru!

me also thinks could be fusing as well within your fusebox?

Could be... I doubt it though, i have had the LED's for much longer. This issue just started on Friday. Im sure its a fuse or a switch or something. I will check fuses today. Hopefully find the issue...

Did you possibly wash the doors on the inside ?

1.) One of the actuators may have gotten slightly wet which is now causing the problem.

The e90 is known for having troublesome door actuators, just double check when you lock the car if the doors are infact locking, the actuator and door ajar sensors are all integrated.

2.) If its not the above then its most likely your aftermarket HID's even if they have been working fine all along, over time now the resistance may have changed somewhere causing the faulty messages. The door warning is controlled by the CAS and the lights by the LCM and FRM however I don't think its a data issue and more of a issue related to some kind of electro magentic interference EMI caused by the LED's. Is your Radio working 100% ?

Hi,

Firstly, thanks for the post.

1.) I havent washed the car in over a week, the car did not get wet inside the doors since its last wash.

2.) My radio is working. One of my fog lights has blown, but i get the door open warning without switching on the fogs. As soon as i switch on the headlights, even park lights the error starts bonging away.

Do you think if i get the ecu errors read, i will be able to pin point the fault?

Thanks
Arbee

I did a search on EMI and E90 and I found the following:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=646696

"Some angel eyes are know to give the door ajar error. Uninstall them and see of it goes away."

hope this helps, you will just need to pinpoint which lights are doing it.

from another article:

"eHID ballasts generate high levels of emissions like other end-use equipment using electronic power supplies. If emissions are not controlled, there is a higher probability that end-users will experience electromagnetic interference (EMI) problems in their facilities. Electronic ballasts have been known to cause a variety of EMI problems, but improvements in devices designed to provide EMI control have reduced the number of EMI problems caused by electronic lighting products."

based on that and my somewhat limited knowledge in this regard, you wont be able to read any faults .. as the car isnt registering any "light faults" as such

I swapped the Angel Eye bulbs, back to the OEM ones. Took a drive around the block and no errors. Happy and sad at the same time.

Anyone know if there's a simple way to avoid getting the error with the LED AE Bulbs? The OEM yellow/orange AE's mess up the look of the car.

Perhaps change the brand or model of the LED bulbs, maybe that will help

A resistor in parralel with each globe should work. But the resistance you will have to work out. I KNOW on the e46 models 470ohm is sufficiant.

Yeah, i suppose i could change the wattage. I know there are 5w and 10w available. Not sure which one i have. Will check with Supplier.
