don't know if I should be worried about me or the car

I am not sure if this is normal or a sign of something on the way out. When the engine is cold at low revs (1500-2000rpm) if I give it mild foot it hesitates (hard to describe, like missing) until the revs come up. I know I am not supposed to drive like that, but when leave my house early in the morning I try and leave as silently as possible;) Sometime I drop the revs too much. I am wondering if it’s a problem that I am not noticing at normal temps and higher revs.

And its not that the car is almost stalling because it will pull and then go through this jerky stage and then be OK again.

Its running very rich on cold start-up. Probably why you get the hesitation. Saw it on mine as well (i think)

Seems normal after very cold evenings bud!
My car does the same and suffers to pass 2000rpm like throttle is blocked or something and then revs pass with ease afterwards!
After a little driving, then it is fine!

Petrol smell ? Does it go away after the 3rd or 4th time you accellerate or only once the car is warm . i.e. temp needle past 1/4 mark ?
Are we all suddenly paranoid ?

my e39 does that when I unplug a cam sensor.. specifically that, but fine above 3K rpm, just under 3Krpms it does that because it overfuels..
so yehp, thats from running too rich, 4Y guy is totally correct.. I've measured the A/F ratios also with a probe on the dyno with cam sensors broken/removed/fixed..
I suppose it could be other things appart from a faulty sensor.. but I don't know what tho .. maybe someone else would know ..

just to give you an idea of a broken cam sensor vs working .. here is one of the dyno graphs .. broken sensor a/f was like 10.5 which is HORRIBLY rich almost like a turbo car, and with the working sensor it was around 13.5+- as what it should be.

Do you have the AC on?? I drive a 325 e46, and it only does this on cold mornings when i have the AC on for the heater.

Happens with or without the AC on. And now that someone mentioned it; there is a smell of petrol when I start it up.
OK, so it seems normal:)
Not paraniod, I just believe big problems don't just happen, but the result of small problems adding up. I like to catch the small problems.

When last was your ride serviced, I remember mine doing it when close to service date, as if the car is making me worry, to get itself checked out.
Might be it just needs some new filters, plugs, stuff like that.

Quite the opposite. It runs very lean on cold start-up to get the catalytic converters up to operating temperature.

Try this...

Start and allow the car to idle a bit (3 minutes) before driving off.
Keep rpm below 50% of max. until coolant and oil gets up to temperature.

Remember : RPM drops a lot during gear shift. Do not change gear if rpm below 3000

If you have a look at dyno power and torque data you will see that these are very low at low rpm.

BMWs like to be revved up..!

Serviced less than 500km ago.

I think it is me, I don't like idling to warm up a vehicle so will just keep the revs up abit more.

u should not idle a car for long on startup, the oil will heat up alot faster when driving
