I am very cautious when it comes to going under a car or touching anything mechanical.

I have one more question. my driveway has a slight decline, enough for the vehicle to roll when in neutral.

now im concerned that Im asking for trouble by putting it on jack stands,
is there a safe way to do this whilst on a decline ?

After reading your comments in this thread, I dont think the DIY route is for you bud

:)

Go on to Youtube and search for ChrisFix's channel. When I started DIY, I found his videos very good for the layman who is started out in automotive DIY.

As someone inexperienced, you want to be as safe as possible by working on a flat surface, working on an incline is very dangerous. Having said this even on a flat surface you will need chocks when jacking a vehicle. The jack is only sufficient to raise the vehicle and change a tyre. If you're going to work under a raised vehicle then use jack stands as they are more stable. A jack can fail under prolonged load, while jack stands are rated for specific loads.

If you're DIYing because of cost saving, I would say go to ABM and you will get increbible pricing as a fanatic.

If you're DIYing because it's something you're interested in then that's great! Youtube has endless video of going about this and you may find forum members willing to come and assist you.

i always make sure i have something under the car in case the jack fails as well as bricks behind 2 wheels etc. ive being doing DIY since kiddie days and must say safety first...with that being said i had a very big scare the weekend when i wiggled the battery terminal on my non starting Datsun and it jumped forward catching me completely off guard and trapping me between it and the 330i...i screamed for help and then grabbed the terminal cable off the battery...make sure you're focused and safe...sometimes with fatigue etc. the smallest..easiest DIY can be dangerous.

Auto Bavaria Midrand BMW. They are the official BMWFanatics partner dealership.
FYI - I sent my F30 330d for an oil in December and it cost R1300 including fluid top ups.
