Whatsup Fellas!
The last two decades I've idolised, drooled and dreamt of owning an e36 M3 Coupe, it ticked all the right boxes to make it one of my dream machines.,, Stunning Coupe Lines, High revving naturally aspirated power, 6 cylinder configuration, ITB’s, three pedals, RWD with LSD and possibly one of the best looking front seats of all time…
Some say you should never drive your hero cars, better to leave them as an object of desire on your bedroom wall and let it race around in your dreams,,, not with this,,,
She has exceeded my expectations in almost every way...Speed, Power delivery, raspy engine note, road feedback and especially in aesthetic beauty.
As you know there is no DSC or TC so the handling aspect will come in time when I’m brave enough to save my own ass but it does seem that she can dance
Everytime I start her up it creates an occasion, a reason to celebrate, an instant smile, fuel for the soul if you want some cheese
….. It’s a Time Machine!
I get that it won't be this special for everybody, it’s just that you have to appreciate and relate this machine to its era and not compare it to the modern torquey FI machines of today. To be honest I wanted a ‘pure’ driving experience and so far she seems perfect for me
...
I can now fully appreciate the progress, evolution and refinement of the e46 coupe… It is such a great car with superb build quality and linear power delivery… When I first got the M I felt she would dwarf the Ci’s special appeal ..., but after a month or so I can confirm I still adore the Ci and possibly appreciate her even more
The e36 has it’s weaknesses though, through the many M’s i’ve tested over the last couple of months the interior build quality is something that needs attention. I figure majority of them suffering from heat expansion.
Naturally for a 21 yr old car, she needs work which I will sort out, but we will get there eventually
For now I see all the niggles and think that it just adds character to her...
I can’t imagine how glorious this machine was to own in the 90’s!
Massive thanks to The Wheel Shop (Zahir & Zahid), Rameez, 444YYY, Nikil, Wes, Gizmo and everyone else that helped me in finding a decent specimen...
O and Happy Birthday Alpinweiss 3, thank you
Miles ‘o Smile’s peeps
