Disapointed: Test drove this M3 today

Try and get hold of Gareth (Ga3M) or Ashlin and have a drive in those cars.
They are both excellent examples of what R220/260 will get you.

For an authentic untouched M3 try and speak to zama as his car has not been touched yet.

Neeshlin's car will ensure that you never buy an M3 as it is bewitched and no M3 I know of runs that quick.

Alain and Cristopher run superchargers so their cars are by no means a benchmark for you to have in your memory bank.......SCs also generate a lot of noise and wheelspin .....but heck if it is a wild experience that you want run in those 2 cars.

Good luck in your search

Owning an e46 ///M3 and a Z4 ///MCoupe, both with the same s54b32 motor, albeit with different gearboxes, I had a similar experience with my ///M3.
When i purchased my e46 i was very disappointed with the way it was performing. It was significantly slower than my ///Mcoupe.

After many many many months of trying everything it came down to the following:
My e46 had a supersprint exhaust
My e46 had an afe intake
My e46 had "sports cats" installed
My e46 had a custom map

BIG issue was that the map was a piece of poo and other than removing the top speed limiter it did not take into account any of the other mods on the vehicle and in all cases the car was simply slower and weaker as a result.

Some of the mods were also poorly delivered for the car.
The cats were clogged and a de-cat was performed
The intake was restrictive and limiting the way the motor was breathing and a new intake solution was installed

So after all this I also installed a 4.10 diff, installed schrik cams (285) and a completely custom map the car is back (in a big way) and shows the ///MCoupe a clear pair of heels:bravo:

Point of this entire story is that most e46 ///M3's have been modified in some way or form... and many of these are poorly designed, executed or implemented and they often have the exact opposite effect to the performance of the vehicle... That and if grandma was driving it under 2500 rpm all the time its probably clogged to sh1t.

S54's are also subseptable to a build up of oil deposits because of BMW's slavish devotion to Castrol 10w50. It leaves heavy deposits in the motors over time that will have a negative impact on the Vanos and overall performance of the motor.

 that was the plan, once you have a forced induction car in the memory bank you pretty poked in everything else, trust me I'm playing with the idea of trading up but I'm battling to find a replacement, I have had a few test drives that haven't impressed me.:thumbdo:

I have been looking at a few myself, some great advice from really experienced members on here
I don't trust any of the engines in the cars they are race engines and should be treated as such, so for me personally if I went with one I would have it professionally looked at before it becomes a money pit

Yeah I have spoken to Peter about all the work I want done on the car. But doesnt mean I will settle for something that feels like it deserves a funeral.

Del-Bosc I get what you are saying. I drove a naturally aspirated 300hp V8 Mustang GT in the states and that car threw me back into the seat. The M3 today felt like it was topping 220hp, nevermind 330hp, and it just felt like the revs battled to get up to 8000rpm.

The asking price for this car is laughable as you say. Just by looking at its condition, especially inside, i would not pay more than 180k. And thats before I felt how dead it was. Front disks need replacement, back brake disks are questionable. The rims were missing big chunks of metal. The interior was badly worn for an 06. The center compartment was loose and flopping around. The drivers side window had no button to open or close it. Def not a gem.

I think the best thing for me to do is find a generous fanatic that owns a clean E46 M3 to take me for a ride sometime. So I have a base on which to work with going forward. Anyone? hehe.

Hey bud, I'm in the south, send me a pm with your number and we can arrange to meet up and you can check my car out and go for a drive if you like. It's a 2006 model with 133k km on the clock. Can also help you with a few pointers and give you an idea of what I've spent on it thus far.
Cheers
Gareth
