Everyone with a diesel BMW:

What is the specific problems you encountered thus far on your diesel. I'm not talking about things like suspension or lights (that's problems that occurs in petrol car too)

Please state the model and mileage.
Here's what I gathered thus far:

2003 320d (Manual) 175000km - Broken Vibration Damper (The pulley on the crank) - R1500 scrapyard + R500 labour
2004 320d (A) 102000lm - Broken Vibration Damper (The pulley on the crank) - R4500 + R1500 labour (dealership...don't ask...)
2001 320d (M) 190000km - 'Blown motor' (The mechie hasnt looked at the car yet)

I know of injectors going at irregular intervals etc. What is your experience?

When I had my 320D:

2002 320d Manual 130000kms Broken engine mount, R1500 Parts + labour
2002 320d Manual 135000kms Broken Guibo, R1300 Parts + labour
2002 320d Manual 161000kms Injectors failed outright, R24000 parts + labour (was gatvol after this and traded it in)

yip 24! it was R4k per injector and then the labour. Oh and the cost from them trying to recon the old injectors which failed horribly, got the car back and it wouldnt go over 100kph, just started shuddering like it was going to roll over and die.

For R24k you can redo the entire engine on my 540i ;)

yeah and still have some tom left over.

i did my bakkies pump and inj & turbo -4 years back with 220 on the clock - thankfully at 345 -still going strong

next to me bm is a kb280d/c

Hmmm, I've only had one problem so far on my 2004 320d(m):

130,000km - EGR valve started malfunctioning, turbo wouldn't kick in until after 3000rpm. Car was driveable, just lacked power. Cost about R4500 for parts and labour at BMW Hatfield.

My mom drives a 2003 320d Auto, which has about 127,000km on the clock. Only engine related problem was the turbo which blew a couple of years ago, which was covered under the motorplan. And from what I hear her car is developing the same symptoms with the EGR valve, just very infrequently.

Wow, R24k for a set of injectors...
