well as some of you might know, ive had a couple of things replace under m/p on my car,and it only has another 6500km of m/p left.

so was wondering,do i keep the car,without extending m/p?
or
keep the car and extend the m/p?
or
trade the car in on a newer e90 lci, maybe 320d,323i or 325i with lower km on it and a longer m/p?

well what would you guys do and why?

thanks herr

* Keep car.
* Finish payment on the car. Then its your goods.
* Extend MP for one year at a time as you need it. If you need your car for work purposes then you must extend the MP.

thanks twinz, use the car to work and back, everyday and to shoops etc.
i just love the sound of the motor
thinking of extending the plan by 20000km as i do roughly 30000km a year.

Colin, if you decide to extend, and you extend it for another year, plus the 20k km's, its going to cost you in the region of R25k - R35k.

Look up BMW motorplan's number and call them direct for a quote. :thumb:

Colin!!! You know what!!!

**Slapping myself through the face**

It was a bit longer back! About a month ago!

We went there because we were actually called by the dealership to ask if we would like to come and drive the 328i F30, as we didn't get the chance to do so on the launch.

We got there, and murphy's law, the car was out! :argh: So we hang around for about 15 more minutes, and then decided to leave... :thumbdo:

Maybe thats why my brain decided to shut it out, because I wasn't happy going there cause they asked me to come, and then having to leave without actually testdriving anything! :bangdesk:

Thing is, it depends on how they will give you now for your car (in the same position, well worse now that my motorplan has ended) on trading in. I think generally going to probably be safer (and more cost effective) to hang onto your car, unless you really have something else in mind. R25k for an extra 20k km motorplan is madness, especially if nothing really needs to be done, but it is peace of mind that if something breaks you are covered - I had no problem forking out R4k to extend my car's motorplan for another year last year, but that was because the mileage is low on mine, so buying extra time is a lot cheaper than mileage...

But, a 320d could be an awesome change, just the lack of the I6 sound would be missed!

yep, have to aggree philip,,but also have to work into the equation,if i get retrenched, and something goes wrong with the car then im covered, where as if no m/p then will have to fork out the cash.

now if i do get retrenched then,we can survive on the wife's salary(can afford the monthly payment)but all luxuries will be gone, and then if no m/p it is two cars that we have to find money for to maintain.

so yep,big decision.

320d are good, ive just got to get over the bad experience i had with the golf tdi and turbos.now i have to say that the navara has surprized me,163000km on the same turbo and still pulling like an ox,so yep big choice.

but ive still got +/-6500km left,so will see what ever body else says

Colin I think the MP extension is good , you also have to think if you were retrenched and wanted to sell the car it is then not out of MP .As you know if it is out of MP everyone thinks the value is then peanuts .
Good luck .

Tough choice buddy.

I didn't extend my MP. Just felt that forking out that wad of cash doesn't justify the mileage I do in a year, bt your situation is different.

These days my mindset is to be debt free. Wanted to buy a bigger house, but think I'll stay as I have maybe 3 or 4 years left. Car also finished by the end of next month so then more cashflow in the house.

Rather try and sell it out of hand if you do decide to upgrade, cause trade ins are worth sh!t...

Good luck with the decision!

Based on your current situation and uncertainty, I would extend. If things go well in the near future (which I hope), then you can look at replacing. Also, if the car is still in Mplan when you trade up, it will still be worth more than if it weren't.

R25k is a lot assuming you don't abuse it, it is unlikely for something to break in that price region. Of course this is not impossible but perhaps you could take out a plan for engine/gearbox cover and then save the extra cash for a rainy day. If you have the R25k cash now, try and put it aside (Yes, I know this is extremely hard as there is always something you need, just invest it & try and 'forget' about it).

20000 km will last me 2+ years whereas it won't even cover a full year for you. It doesn't seem worth it if it wont even cover you until 2014.

So my 2c, keep without extending or if you can find a car you like that's in your price range with a year or 2 extra mplan, then maybe consider that. Mplan is a waste in my opinion. The only time it is worth it is when you have a low km car & only buy an extra year as I think that is much much cheaper (I may be mistaken)

Just remember bmw's don't magicaly explode at 100.000km
I'd keep the cash. For incase , but if you have looked after your car its will keep going

My last 3 cars have been purchused just when the motorplan was up, if you know the history you can pick up some good cars and most of the little issues should have been sorted.
