following my previous post, i want to get the 320d running as clean as possible,

Yestreday i cleaned an bypassed the EGR, today im changing the thermostat. next i would like to get the cat taken out,

Any CEL's to worry about if i get this done, will i NEED to remap or can i run without software for now?

And lastly, best to get a straight pipe put in or is it fine to just get them to burn the cat through?

TIA

Just cut it out and replace it with a straight piece of pipe. No need to do anything else. :coolShake:

Awesome, anywhere specific you would recommend? JHB south or sandton area

Any good exhaust shop can assist you. It’s not higher grade on these cars so even your local super quick could assist you.

1) CAT co-located with the headers/manifold two options
..a) cut open the CATS and remove the inside material, replace
..b) replace entire headers/manifold with branches

2) Mid-stream cats, if no sensors directly fitted to the CAT, ie sensor located forward or aft of the CAT on the straight pipe, easy, cut CAT out and replace with straight pipe

you will only need to worry about software/re-mapping if you mess with the sensors themselves, ie removing sensors etc

..b) replace entire headers/manifold with branches (Yes if it was a N/A car however this is a turbo vehicle so it needs a downpipe)

Nobody has mentioned a resonator?

Its a diesel so you don't even notice a difference in exhaust note, the turbo gets a bit of a whistle during spool up but apart from that no difference in sound. :coolShake:

you are correct in your previous repy, I "overlooked" the Diesel portion of the vehicle in question (my bad)

So did I

Would this process be much the same in an e90?? Was thinking about doing it on there. But I'm not sure about cost and the work involved in doing so..... Thanks guys

I would also like some clarity on this.. Did some reading and everybody says a different thing. If I can just remove my cat for now I will be happy but not so sure if I can just remove without software...

in general

1) CATS located on the headers, better to do a downpipe (Diesel engined cars)
2) CATS located underbody, normally OK to just cut out and replace with straight tubing
3) If you mess around with the sensor probes, ie not replaced in their original location undamaged, then software will be needed to "delete" them from the cars management system....in some cases it might not be possible to replace or leave the probes undamaged/un-moved

For the E90 guys, if you have a sensor before the cat then you can do a decat/ downpipe with out software or a cat fooler thats required. If the sensor is after the cat then you need to do software or fit a cat fooler.

If one of the E90 diesel owners can confirm the sensor location then one of the above will be applicable :coolShake:

As far as I found out
All Lci e90 320d needs some type of software to fool the cat if there is a down pipe being done.

Hi gents, i have the 2010 320d Lci...I have had the DP done with no software or cat foolers needed at all. Sanjay at PowerFlow did mine and the car has run 100% since the day i did it. :praise:
