Well, yes and no.

Yes, cos of the extra toxic gasses that are now released into the atmosphere.

No, cos you use a bit less fuel than before if you pull out cats that were very clogged (and this can happen as early as 100K KM).

lol, i dont think a car emmits even a fraction the toxins in its lifetime, as opposed to what was emmited in the making of the car..

cats only work properly at certain rpm and when the engine is not under load...

this means if you drive with a heavy foot they are doing almost nothing...

they more of a thing the auto industry is doing to say "look we care" under most driving conditions they do not operate properly and when blocked or contaminated they do way more damage than good...

cats must die :)

Hi Gents, merry X-mas to u all, I hope Santa brings you lots of GTI's that can be humbled in 2011.

On the issue of DECAT, I just bought my 2nd 330i, its an '05 A/T with M-sportpack. She is still standard with 98K (after some driving).

The guy I sold me 1st 330i to (close friend) just had the stage 1 conversion done at SAC's in CPT. Overall it has done wonders for the car, improving Fuel econ and killing his flat spot when pulling off. My only gripe is that it only gave 13kw/25Nm at the wheels, less than advertised for 8K, and this was a full DECAT and Uni chip.

I dont mind doing my upgrade in stages (different places), but where can you guys recommend in CPT for me to get my decat done, and should I put a full pipe in or simply cut out the front and rear cats, and have them weld in additonal pipe + cat foolers upfront?

shot okes,
Obbs

SAC IS A RIP OFFF!!

Please dont go to them. I also saw they advertised a stage1 conversion for a golf gti V for R22000!!!! Feel free to visit our forum sponsrs like Zeemax in Paarden Eiland and Goch and Cooper in Brackenfell. Excellent service, great prices and trust meyou always walk away with a a smile. The decats about R600 at PowerFlow in Tienie Meyer street in Bellville. Chip and full freeflow about R5000 @ G&C. Hope this helps

Personally I would steer clear of any place that sells a conversion as one thing as it is usually really overpriced, and you can probably get better by just having each thing done on its own by specialist in that specific thing.
