I have a 2003 320i with 190 000km on the clock. Fuel consumption is not too bad, but with my driving style I can use better economy.. :)

Can anyone recommend a good place to go to. I am in Auckland Park, but I don't mind driving somewhere where i know they'll do a good job.

Contact De@no on the forum, he has a 320i & also done decat etc..

The thing is, will the BMW technicians know that the car has been decatted if the car goes in for a service ? I mean if you don't tell them and they have no reason to assume you've done any modifications will they be able to pick on it ?

It should be pretty obvious to see if they are under the car, especially the middle box if you replace with straight pipes.

I remember De@no saying the one guy noticed his, but he kept hush :)

I wish I had a friend who was also a BMW technician and also the same BMW technician working on my car. That would help. :)

I had my 330 decatted a few months ago. Straight pipes fitted and only when cold it sound like tin, but i dont drive my car hard or rev it when cold.

My buddy use to work at Kwik Fit in Fordsburg, he did it for R300. Just the ones on the exhaust. Best mod so far, together with the BMC Flatpad filter, it sound and goes nicely...

No bud, your fuel consumption goes down quite a bit...thats why people do the mod. The only reason yours has gone up is cause your planting your foot to hear that sound the exhaust makes past 3000RPM...

Def take the CATS out.
I first removed the centre cats(my e46 had cats in the centre and in the manifold/branches) from my exahust system. Gives a nice raspy sound if you put straight pipes and you can feel the difference. - The car revs much easier.

If your car also has the cats in the manifold then replace with headers/branches from another BMW such as a 328i or then go for TNT headers. This also seems to help quite a bit.

The difference can be felt in top end power, low end seemed slightly sluggish afterwards though. - maybe a slight loss in initail low end torque.

Overall il definitly recommend a decat, top end is lekka

Sorry for my ?noobness? but won't removing the cats cause possible burning of your valves? what is the purpose of the cat converters? and will you be restricted to certain fuel grades after removal of the cats? and finally has anyone got power figures on 6cyl bm engines before and after decatting???
