It's had a small problem with the starter solenoid (I think), but Saturday morning it became a big problem, as the starter would turn when I try to start the car but the solenoid doesn't push the gear so it can make contact with the gear on the flywheel. So I decided to remove the starter to inspect it, unfortunately there are some complications, now it will probably need some major work to get the starter out, ie removal of intake manifold, and possible moving the engine a bit forward to gain better access.

Yup, the top bolt of the starter has been slightly damaged (before I even started) and is totally overtightened, so it is impossible to get loose as you can't fit the proper socket, so now I need to make more room. I also plan to replace the torx bolts used with hex ones, so that I don't have this problem again.

I'll be bumming a lift with legacy will be easiest since we live at the same house

Thanks, I will give you a shout if (when) I get to the point where I have reached the limits of my skill .

My first steps will be to just slowly remove stuff to see if I can actually gain access, I'll see how it goes.
