Dealership Woes

This is ludicrous! I would be worried as all hell about the state of the car now...

I would definitely seek guidance from the bank in terms of cancelling the sale.

I would also definitely take it further with BMW SA.

Totally unacceptable...:RedNo:

Best of luck man. That is so not cool...

Thanks for the support guys.

I'm so torn though, I absolutely love the car and it's the exact spec I would have chosen. I've looked and there is nothing like it available at the moment, so now I would be without a car and/or resort to not having the car I want? If it were a new car I suppose I could request a replacement but it is a CPO from 2015 so I'm not sure where I stand with that..

Hey bud, I understand exactly how you feel about the car. BUT, don't just settle. The plus is that the car is under motorplan. Any issues will be sorted. But I would not be happy with what happened.

Forgive my ignorance but what is a "CPO"?

Then, if you accept that car, I would submit that at the back of you mind always is that nagging feeling of what was going on with the car while in Tembisa and the "quick shop"!!

Also, the question of the car then going to an ARC after the Tembisa Tornado had had a go at fixing it means there's a comment on that car on the system. You say that the scratch was there when you took delivery.... there's the first mistake. Again I say this with respect because I know its not lekker to have all the excitement of collecting the new car only to walk away because it's not 100%; I have done this before. Its crap but in the long run it saves a lot of heartache.

In your shoes I would hand the car back, demand a new vehicle and tell them they have 7 days to confirm or you will go to BMWSA and BMW AG.

Good luck and I hope all works out for you.

BMW craps on us for not using a BMW ARC for repairs when the cars under motorplan and here a BMW dealer sends your car to some backyard repair guy?

I have this feeling that they probably swapped out parts from your car or someone took it for a joy ride . I would report this to BMW SA as well . can you imagine how many other customers cars were abused in this way by that dealership?

If I was in your position ( and im a little panicky type of person) If I saw that my car was parked off in someones backyard in such an area , I would have immediately reported it stolen and had my tracking service attempt to recover the car . Theres no excuse for this .

My trust in dealers is at an all-time low. Two weeks ago after a service on my work-bakkie I stopped at Engen Grasmere and the attendant pointed out that my entire sump was draining out. Turns out they didn't tighten the plug properly. I shudder to think what else they did wrong.

Have you tried posting it on Facebook or Twitter? These days companies are very careful to manage their reputation and it might be good way of getting someone's attention on the problem. Worth a shot if nothing else works.

Hey all, I would appreciate some of your thoughts/advice on a 'little' situation that occurred with my vehicle and the dealership that I bought it from. Here's the "short" story:

I took delivery of my M235i at the beginning of last month. Upon delivery there was a scratch/gouge on the rear bumper from a careless workshop employee (which was only explained to me after I had to point it out). The salesman assured me that they would fix it ‘on the house’ at a later stage when I came to get the registration docs for my car. Rather annoying, but mistakes happen.

Fast-forward about 3 weeks and I’m told I can bring in my car for them to fix it. I dropped the car off in the morning and received a courtesy car and was on my way. Later that evening I decide to have a look on my ConnectedDrive App to see if my vehicle had been sent out for repairs, this is what I find:

location_8433493277.jpg

My car is parked at someone’s house in Thembisa.

Queue the panic and I think A: my car has been stolen, B: someone took my car for a joyride, C: that’s a very strange place for a repair shop. Neither of the options were very appealing. After struggling to get a hold of someone for an explanation (it was about 6:45pm), the sales manager tells me that their repair shop is in Midrand and that’s all I got, no other reassurance (and last I checked ‘Midrand’ and ‘a house in Thembisa’ are not quite the same).

After a sleepless night, I message the the sales manager in the morning and all I get is that he’s in a meeting but all is fine with my car. By 11am I’ve lost all patience and call the manager but he still can’t give me any information besides that the car is ‘where it is meant to be’, so I tell him (stupidly) that I’m about to leave to the location of my vehicle. “Coincidently\Conveniently”, as I’m nearing the location, the ConnectedDrive app reports that my vehicle is on the move.

During all of this (and after), there was no communication with me about the situation, and no forthcoming info. After struggling to get a hold of the Dealer Principle all I got was: Sorry about this, we didn’t know that was where the vehicle was, we’ve closed the account with that ‘repairer’ and won’t be using them again.

Am I crazy to think that this is not acceptable? At this point I’m just trying to figure out if/how I should proceed. I’d really appreciate your guys’ input!

TLDR:
- Bought an M235i that was scratched on delivery
- Took it in later to be repaired (by the dealership)
- Car was taken to a house in Thembisa to be 'repaired'
- Am I crazy or is this normal??

Not normal. In all repair contracts cars are test driven to ensure the minimum quality standards are met. This is usually an hour or 2 of driving during office hours. No employee is allowed to utilize the vehicle to get home or any personal behavior. Did you record the odometer reading at drop off? If so do the maths and see if all adds up. The dealer is whom you contracted with so liability lies with him. Unfortunately it's tough to prove negligence unless something is missing or damaged. Have a look around the vehicle and check before accepting it.

Crux of the matter is that, in affect your motorplan is void, if it suits BMW or not.

IF they used a drop of paint, it must go to an ARC. THey are not allowed to use any form of filler, and technically must replace the panel.

This is how strict BMW is, unless it suits them, and then anything goes.

I would take this up with BMW SA, and you do that by posting your story on BMW SA Facebook page. Name and shame, exactly like you did, and watch the weenie roast...

I am sure a very embarrassed Bmw has asked OP to stop posting in return for some special treatment haha.

How I wish that were the case!

When I did eventually speak to the DP myself, she had the gall to state that its impossible for her to keep track and check where the vehicle's are sent. Yes, I bloody well do expect you to know where you send my car! All I got was a 'sorry about that' a half-hearted offer to take my car back (take note that there are no cars with my spec available and I've been searching for this vehicle for a long time). So now I must be left without a vehicle and inconvenienced due to their screw up?

Someone from BMW eventually contacted me and said their feedback from the DP was the following:

”They have been using the paint repairer for some time, unbeknown to me of the exact location of same. I have done some investigation with regards the car being driven overnight and have no evidence that there was any such occurrence. I have instructed my staff that we will not use this particular company for any further “touch ups” we collected the clients car before any touch-ups were done and instructed the ARC to make the necessary repair to the rear bumper. Same was completed by Sandton ARC.”

I never claimed it was driven overnight so that's irrelevant, but the claim that they collected the car before any touch-ups were done is a lie, since I contacted ARC when it was eventually sent in and I have photographic evidence that there was work done on it.

They have just continuously lied and and ducked and dived. I'm awaiting further feedback from BMW but I'm honestly at a loss.

Hmmmm. At some point you are going to have to decide the outcome you want, and if fair, go for it. If there's no similar spec car available, and you don't want to give the current one back, then what do you expect from the dealer?

Bliksem hope you get it sorted man.
If it was me i would have given the car back!
You feel that there is no other car with the same specs that you have now but you will find it and it will make you happy again. The problem is that some of these stuff won't show up in the next 6 months but rather in the next year or 2.
Once you find a problem it will bug you the whole time! Some they car sort out to factory but some not
