What a crazy story. You guys should have a protest breakfast run to the dealership and express your objection against bad service delivery....:banghead:

Would be great if someone from BMW SA signed up to be part of the community and participate every now and then?!?!

No? Yes?

 sorry to hear yr bad luck. As I mentioned before, I had a 2007 330d with that stupid auto box and I had endless problems and it kept on going back a to from ZF who are hopeless - I always had issues with the box it would hesitate between changes from day one - I will never get an auto box in my entire life again because of that.
I sold my car last year with 40 thou on the clock only and a very unhappy camper with not one reply from BMW to help - so I hope you have more luck than I do.

I had the same issue at one Pretoria stealership.

"My car needs a service mam - Sir, what is wrong with your car?

Let the technician do an oil service and check if there's anything else that could be shaky - run the diag!

"Sir, but you have to tell us what the problem is.."

I'm thinking - BIAATCH what do you have service techies and the diagnostics testing for? Never went back!

These 'service advisors' of today, BIAATCHES who couldn't give a F(*K

I agree with you, and don't like this aspect of car service myself, but it seems to be the norm from what I've seen. If you don't mention what is specifically wrong with your car, even if it has come into the workshop sawn in half or on fire, it will not be fixed (a little over-exaggeration). If it isn't on the jobcard, the technicians do and must have tunnel vision when it comes to other problems.

Sometimes during the service of a car I notice something wrong (aircon isn't blowing cold, a noise here or there, etc) and I'll try bring it up. It will almost always be ignored unless it endangers the driver. I wish it wasn't like this, I do, but it covers the dealership financially and with regards to time allocation when servicing your vehicle. If we had to look for and fix any issues that the driver didn't mention or notice, the turnover would be dreadful.

Not sure hey. I love the work, I do, but the pay is terrible, so it makes it difficult to say I'll be there forever or another day at this point. I'm waiting to see what sort of increases I get as I finish my levels through the apprenticeship, next one being soon!

Thank you for the input Major, but this was exactly what I addressed in my last letter to the CEO of BMW (unanswered of course). In my mind I do understand that any dealer is in the business to make money, but not to my expense! I do understand technicians like yourself are under a lot of pressure to get the cars through the sausage machine and boost your own merits as well, but to me the difference comes the moment when a customer complains. The moment when somebody complains there need to be a different "route" or "method" to handle such a car and in my mind this costs should be for BMW SA to insure the dealer spends the necessary time to deal with the complain and to sort the problem out.

It is a BIG concern to me that for example fault codes does not get read on a normal service, I do not expect each and every car to go through a complete DIS check, but how about do a quick fault code read out with a hand held device, check for serious faults and clear the existing faults, this way feedback will improve and possible serious faults will be picked up much sooner. Again I understand the economics of money making but we as customers are the source of that money and the more BMW SA through their dealerships keep us happy the more money BMW SA and their dealers will make in the end of the day.

I get very passionate when I speak about this subject because it influenced me directly so I will sign off for now..:)

Ryan - look at the CPA as well see if you have ground to stand on...
@Major pay for guys like yourselves is normally kak at the stealerships even though the make so much money for an oil change, sometimes i wonder if oil change is done or the car is just sent for a car wash and engine wash.... Thats why some of us oakes with with older Bimmers with no motorplan and no warranty appreciate guys like you... So get some diagnostic tools and do some part time work while you get all your belts at BMW... I will gladly support you...!!!

Take it back, book it in and do not sign it out till you are 100% happy.

These guys need all the space they have and a car standing in their workshop is money lost to them.

Mamba, I understand your frustration with regards to your M5 engine, but you're painting me the same colour as BMW. I wasn't standing up for the reasons cars don't get serviced as well as they could be, and in fact said how I wish it were different. I was just reasoning as to why it happens. I think service at the expense of profit is sad to see in any industry and seems to be rife in this country. If I were at any position to change that sort of behaviour, I would, so please understand that I haven't been brainwashed. I think how cars are serviced, and how customers are treated, is dealer-specific, not handed down from BMW SA where you've directed your complaint.

While we are on the oil topic..

@Major (or anyone else that can answer)... WTF is up with BMW not using Castrol and some cheap generic shit? That really pisses me off and when you bring it up to the parts guy you bought it from he acts as if you're stupid claiming "no it's exactly the same as Castrol oil, we use it on all our cars here...".. It's not exactly the same as Castrol, otherwise it would say Castrol..

That gets on my nerves... :dunno:
