Damm belt tensioner!

Was comming back from Fish River Sun on Sat afternoon and about 10km after I left Fish, my BATT light came on and I slow down and pull of the road. Doing so, I feel that the power steering is also gone.

Well that can only be one thing, the main fan belt and now the car's waterpump does not work and you need a lowbed to get home. Flippen such a small part like a bearing on the tension pulley and you are stranded. Suppose it could be worse if you overheat the engine!!

My problem is I'm in the bushes and Clutchy is 140km from here. Will see what we can do about it.

I have the same worry with my 540. I find it quite stupid that they user ONE belt for power steering, alternator, and water pump. And as far as I know my brakes also work off the power steering pump. :shakehead:

@ hotchoclate, yes I managed to get home at flippen 10:30 that night after I left Fish at about 3pm. ( 180km) I was suppose to get the car to Clutchy in EL but this morning my broker told me that I need to pay in about 1k to get the car to EL. Will still see if I DIY as there is no one I trust here in Fort Beaufort to work on my car. Even miss out on my braai at Sat night.

At leat I received some good news as well. Clutchy just told me that he will come to Fort Beaufort this weekend to fix the car and do my EGR delete the same time. Thumbs up to Clutchy! :joy:

@ Raybimmer, thanks a lot for the offer. At this stage I still keep my DIY's to the small things on the car. Will be nice to assist with the work. I do not know when he will be here as I will be at my shop on SAT morning till about 12. If very cold and wet, I might just close as then I do not have a lot to do.

Replacing the tensioner is easy , but as with most bm's you are likely to skin a knuckle if not careful as space is a problem in front of the engine .

Its a pity there is no worthwhile place to meet between EL and FB ......mmm meet at Hogsback in the snow .....mass bmw run....all stuck in snow...:roflol:

Nice little place up there but I really hate the road as you will always get some goats and whatever on the way. We sometimes go there for a breakfast run with the bikes. The main thing is to be on the lookout but it is always a bigger risk with the two wheelers! However it is a big rush if the guy's start wacking it!
