Okay went to BMW Repair in Pta and damage is R 15500.

New door, seals and trim = R 7800+-

Rest is Labour.

Since car is still under motor plan it has to be done at a BMW repair center, which there are two of in PTA.

Howdy,

Not fishing for the work, I am probably too far out from you anyway, just want to point out an injustice.....

It does not need to be BMW approved to do motorplan work. The only thing is that you need to take the vehicle back for motorplan reinstatement, cost is usually around 3.5k, which, if you take into account the differance in labour rates, the insurance companies allow for that, as its still cheaper.

Just giving a heads up.

So even if I go to a non bmw repair place cost is going to be the same ?

You see, I have worked at a panel beater before and I know how most of them work. Present company excluded.

Cost is less, due to the discount in labour rate.

Depends on the contract with the insurance... Most guys are from 180 to 260.

BMW I am sure is at like 450 an hour or something daft....

just a quick question, how will they know that it hasnt been done at a authorised repair centre?

i for one wont charge more the 1k labour to hang a door and to adjust it on a car.

really a pretty simple job. panel beaters (excluding present company) name their price and the chances are that the vehicle will need to be returned for further adjustments they failed to carry out correctly in the 1st place.....

i hope you have a pleasant encounter and have no issues at all.

Racing snake,

Not quite right bud.

If it is cash, then you can negotiate at will.

If you are contracted to an insurance company, your labour rate is pre-defined in a agreement with the insurance companies, based on staff compliment, equipment, brand of paint used, ect

When the assessor come around, they actually dont allow a repair value, but assign a repair time, and the repair time is then approved.

Labour is allocated in terms of 15 minute units, so 1 unit = 15 minutes, and thats what you are allowed to bill.

But 2k to hang a door is inane.

Look at the R2800 charge they usually add for diagnostics.... WTF for...
