Dream day in Camps Bay turns into nightmare

This is why I asked to see the quote. The damage looks mostly superficial, its exterior skin, the rear bit can easily be repaired so max is:
New Bumper
Fender
Passenger Door
Mirror
Rear Door
Refurb both mag wheels
And even with our most expensive supplier it does not come to that price! We are stripping and re-building a 635CSI with full body paint using the finest paints (Sherwin Williams) and custom bodywork for less than that...

No new bumpers needed. They quoted me for new bumpers which i fail to see why. If you look in the side few pic you will see the rear bumper only has scratch marks just above the wheel. Nothing else. The front bumper also just scratches. No dents. Mirror still in one piece. Only paint transfer. Side skirt fine.
They quoted me for the hood but there is no damage. They quoted me for the headlight, tail light, side and front indicator. Nothing that i can see wrong with the head and tail lights. They want R280 per indicator light. I paid R500 for a set of four so they can leave that to me as well.
No damage on rear rim and tyre. Only front rim. But they quoted both.
Basically if you can get second hand doors, fenders and fender liners then you're set.

My thoughts exactly, wasnt sure from the pictures... I am sure we can repair that for less than half of what they have quoted.
If they write it off at least thats an option for you, let us know how this progress's as we have a repair shop that can easily sort this out - It looks nasty but its fairly easy to repair well. :thumbs:

I also see 25 to 30 there,
Could get slightly more if things like door hinges, locking mechasims, air bags ect got poof, may need a new set of front door hingles.
I got it as new (meaning second hand)

Parts looking at 10 to 15 using OEM but second hand,
Paint 10

In 100% agreement with Leonard, but we can take a look at the car and gauge precisely what needs done... But with that insurance quote its like they want to write your car off. :thumbdo:
My thoughts are that this guy wants the car written off. Then go buy it at the auction for R30k and then repair it himself and give it to his buddy at a motor dealer and get some comission out of the deal.
Upon arrival he immediatley asked with the car was insured for before he even looked at the car.
I noticed this morning on the quote that the amounts for the hood and lights are for labour. Why they need to remove the rear lights i don't know but they are asking R1000 to remove the hood and R280 for a light. I can remove that light in 2min

I have forwarded the quote to Leonard and Mike. Know they will give the best advice how to move forward

I was even planning on buying the vanos kit from you this week Moranor! Now that has to wait
dont worry about it... get this fixed the Vanos kit will be waiting when you ready
not sure i would have kept my cool the way you did... think i would have told the driver of the bakkie in no uncertain terms he is a complete idiot... but anyway that is not important now... most important is that you now find a very good panel shop to do the work...

So an update. The assessor was here yesterday. Checked out the car and upon inspection said that this car will probably a write off. Asked him very nicely to please see what he can do as this is my pride and joy.
Today he came back with a copy of the quote i had for R52400. He quoted it down to R36 600. On the quote he showed the difference in price parts from the original quote and his quote. I was shocked at the difference in pricing.
When i asked him why this is he confirmed my suspicions. These guys over quote the car as close as they can to the insured value of the car so they can go buy the car at the scrap yards and fix it up for much cheaper and sell it.
Just so happy they are gonna fix it!
