Thanks Div,

No pinks slips, I don't want drivetrain drama's :tiptoe:

Only problem when you have other people with with you is that they want leave, they don't have that needed staying power :roflol:.

At least Nico got the video and some great pics as well which is epic.

Had an urge to go ride this evening, decided to stop at some of the petrol stations in and around my area. Took a few snaps at each one.

Sweet, bring the 1series. Then you can join me for one session so you can see the lines and how the traffic works. And then you can have a go yourself.

Had a disappointing but rewarding day at Zwartkops.

My previous fastest lap at the Z, with the GF in the car(+-50kg extra), was a 1:22:7. The time I was chasing the Leon Cupra I had my mate in the car, extra 90kg, his cellphone timing had us around 1:23:-ish. So the idea was to slowly settle into a rhythm and work on my lines and see just how much time I can make up with no ballast weight.

To my surprise, I was able to do two laps in 1:21:8, this was great as I knew I would get faster once had got myself dialled in. However, the lap after the second 1:21:8, the cooling system on the BMW failed. As I went into corner 2 at about 120km/h before my breaking point (the fluid must have already leaked),as I braked there was no tracking on the left front wheel, because of the coolant being "silky". Left wheel takes the load in right hand corner so rear came out and it went into a slide. Managed to keep it sort of controlled and ended up in the sandbox.

The hose going from the thermostat to the expansion tank failed. My suspicion is that the system started to warm up and get hot, which is normal when you track, the pressure build up must have caused the pipe to pop. I had no warning lights on the dash either. Spent the rest of the morning waiting for a flatbed to take the car home. I have stripped most of the cooling tubes, will see what else might need replacing, might as well do some DIY while it is stationery.

Here is the video:
0-2:00: Trying to keep with a 135i and a charged 86
2:00 - 3:30: Personal best lap time - 1:21:8
3:30-end: Cooling system failure

[video=youtube]

Some pics I took, side note I only did 22.7km yesterday on track :crazylaugh:

1st time I have seen a top radiator hose fail like that. Looks like the plastic bit sheered in half.

A fellow track day nut on one of my trackday whatsapp groups, said the exact same thing happened to his z4.

got to love BMW plastic cooling parts lol

least you went off cleanly and there was no extra damage :)

Very time I work the car the amount of plastic amazes me, it has it place plastics and does save weight(I think).

Yes at least, had this happened at corner 5 ( 140km/h) it would have been a really bad day. They moved the barrier forward cause they are rebuilding the old barrier, it was basically right on the track, that day.

Pretty sure it would have been the end of 325.
