UPDATE 1:

As of 1 Nov 2013, I have the 325i for 1 year, and still in love with it.

On the maintenance side I have replaced power steering pump. Took me 11 hours to do, due to lack of tools (I buy tools as I require them so doing slowly building up a "workshop") and experience (I have read countless DIY's and I have the Haynes repair manual, but hands on exp means so much more). I would also consider it my first true attempt at servicing my car (changing a globe or a fuses does not count as a mechanical repair job in my opinion). Here is the view I had from underneath the car.

I also did the brakes(disc’s and pads).

And lastly did an oil service.

On the “mod” side of things:
I had the windows tinted, only job that I have not done myself as I know vinyl can be very tricky to get right, plus if they do it you get a life time guarantee. I then bought some Plastidip from Tiaan(Executor) and tackled my grills.

Which I followed up by getting some more Plastidip to smoke the lights. I used the smoke and glossifier to smoke everything except the headlights. The glossifier does make the Plastidip shine more but it will never get to the Lamin-X effect. I had the smoke Plastidip on the car for about 6/7 months, never had any issues no peeling nothing. I did remove all the lights to ensure that I can achieve the best possible finish and adhesion. I truly think it is an amazing product.

Along with the oil service I decided it was time to replace all the headlight globes with Osram Nightbreaker Plus globes. I bought some Yellow Lamin-X, to cover the fog lights with and to do some experimenting with the Lamin-X. I found the Lamin-X easy to apply and was convinced it will work on the other lights as well. Check the silver beast in the background.

The next mod was the first mod I wanted to do when I got the car but I could not find the right type of angel eyes. I am not a fan of the LED type for the e46. KSINGH post a DIY on a kit he found at Autostyle, it was exactly what I was looking for. I got the kit and installed it almost immediately as I got home. When I was done with the install I realized that the “matte” Platisdip smoke lights had to go. The next day I was back at Autostyle got me some gun smoked Lamin-X and applied it the same day.

And some Pink Valve Caps.

I will do a proper photo shoot in a few weeks’ time.

Thanks again to everyone for all the knowledge available on the forum it makes it so much easier to know what works and what not.

"I have been a BMW fan since I can remember, the love for cars was inherited from my father. He himself was first and Alfa man but changed somewhere in the early 90’s when he got a ’91 M5 which he replaced after 10 odd years with a ’00 M5(the first car I drove after receiving my learners license, was terrifying and exiting all in one) which was then replaced ,around 8 odd years later, with a ’02 M5 (also an e39 but with 100 000 km’s less than the one it replaced) which he still drives today."

Thanks Sash, ice cream social this month.

Does anyone know where I can find some good quality automotive paint in an aerosol can. I want to paint the plastic trim gloss black, the plastic is now to faded, guess that is what happens after 10 years.

Would like to have a look at those plastic bits, there's a few detailing products I would try before painting.
