My CSL is a 05 model with motorplan till 21 april 2012 so about 3 months ago I sent my car to BMW for a vanos noise which they confirmed and they replaced vanos and camgears, but after replacing they tested the car(obviously by starting it) and found that the vanos oil preassure wasnt good and also replaced the preassure valve. After which it was quiet.
Since then I did 300km(two breakfast runs) with it and after washing it last Sunday I found that the noise was back, I took it back to BMW on monday since I only had a week of motorplan left. They wanted to do a parts warranty claim on vanos but I asked them to check cams and cam bearings, which they did. It was found that the cambearings was blue which indicates a loss of oil preassure at some stage. They then also took off the sump to check bigends and mains....same problem!!!!!
In the end BMW SA technicians confirmed that the engine had to be replaced and on Thursday last week they got the go ahead from motorplan and they ordered the new engine on friday the 20th with ONE day left on plan:ty:
The techie says the engine would have done another 3 - 10000km like that but then it would have been for my account when it did go. It comes to about +- R240000....... Imagine that, I would have paid for something that I recon was a result of starting the car with a faulty preassure valve....
Now I have a new machine with 2 year warranty on it:joy:
